Advise on how to find where to volunteer for a weekend in NO.
I am also wondering about places to stay in the French Quarter. Several of the hotels I had picked are booked. If you can't aadvise me personally, can you direct me somewhere to get this information? Thanks.

1. when are you going, do you have transportation, only in NO?
Will you be there for only a couple days? What would you like to do?

I have been involved with a volunteer camp in Slidell (across bridge to east of NO, they have projects going several places in and around NO.
bayoulibertyrelief.org Niki and Ken.

Animal Rescue New Orleans needs people very much, drive around and fill animal food/water stations, or work in the warehouse. They do need help, are very good people and are glad to have anyone help for any amount of time. http://www.animalrescueneworleans.com/
"(07/27/06) Volunteers urgently needed to feed and water animals. Residents and out-of-towners desperately needed. Warehouse animal care needed: Morning shift at 8am, and afternoon shift 6-9pm. Call 504-571-1900 or just show up!"

Common Ground can always use people mucking houses, etc. http://www.commongroundrelief.org/

Are you part of a church as many have projects going also. Habit for Hummanity is working there, not sure if they take weekend volunteers though.

Hope this helps a little. Sorry, know nothing about housing, but any of these organizations might. Have a good time, thank you very much and please let us know how it went.

3. We volunteered with ARNO. I am leaving this afternoon.
I know that this will be a pretty hard-core experience but I need to help in some way. Thanks for the information.

4. That is GREAT!!! Hope you have an interesting time.
Talk with people, take pictures, look around, talk with people, make connections, talk with people, eat good food, listen to music, talk with people. ARNO are good people. And please report back when you can. I am envious, would like to go back now. You are leaving the day before Katrina hit. Good luck and, um, have fun is not quite right, but have an experience. woof and meow

2. August 27th would have been my 40th anniversary. My husband (who is
deceased) and I spent our honeymoon and our 25th anniversary in NO. My 2 daughters and I will be be there that weekend to mark the occasion with some good food and fun and to commemorate the wonderful city by doing a little volunteer work to give back to that great American landmark. We will drive in from Texas on Friday and leave on Monday. We want to stay in the French Quarter. Any other help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
