Mission Statement needs updating. Thoughts anyone?
For those impacted by the gulf coast hurricanes especially, have you thoughts on updating the mission statement? Is it ok to expand the use of this group to natural disasters in general? I had thought of something like this, since there has been a call for a Preparedness group, but do not want to have the aftermath of the hurricanes fade away:

"The DU Hurricane Survivors Group is a place for DU members from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South-west Texas, and Southern Florida and elsewhere who are or have been victims of the recent Hurricanes to check-in, meet each other, trade accounts, offer advice or just show support for their fellow survivors. It is also a place for posting Hurricane related news stories, which seem to have been bumped from the front pages, if they are still being reported at all."

This doesn't work anymore since this forum hasn't been used in this way for some time and now has been changed to "natural disaster survivors group".

How about "a place for DU members who have been impacted by natural disasters, to check in, meet each other, trade accounts, offer advice or just show support for their fellow survivors. It is a place for people wanted to respond to disasters to coordinate activities. It is also a place for posting Preparedness info for disasters"? I know this is a big change, but the original mission statement needs to be changed."

1. How about the above but without the "natural" in disasters. Cover more disasters?

calling this just "Disaster Survival Group"?

That way, people who are experiencing the Gulf Oil Spill would be welcome. The oil Spill is not natural but certainly a large scale event worthy of the word "disaster." And the effects on people--displacement, PTSD, longterm consequences--are EXACTLY the same...

What do you think?

Also, if things get any worse re. the Economy, a depression could be considered a "disaster."
