any interested in forming a regularly meeting virtual support group...
....for the laid-off and unemployed?

this forum is really quiet! but I thought I'd try here. I am feeling the need of somewhere to go and hang out and vent. Or, does someone know where a place like that would be?

1. No, I don't know of any place like that
I think it's a freedom of speech problem. We are not allowed to talk about anything unless it is positive and productive. Otherwise, we are met with negative reactions.

People are pretty much expected to ignore whether or not they will retire with dignity. We're expected to just put on blinders and work until we are too old to know what is going on around us.

Okay, so, let me put my blinders on, and be like everyone else now, and suggest that one should talk to those who have similar career interests. For instance, if one wants to be a cook, hang out in cooking forums. If one wants to be a carpenter, talk to other carpenters. Etc.

Of course that does not address the core issue.

2. Have you talked with anyone in the Lounge?
I was under the impression that several of the regulars in the Lounge have been dealing with layoffs, job loss, either their own or a spouse's.

I also wonder whether DU ought not to have a Rant Room of some sort for any and all painful or frustrating situations. Given primary season, we probably all need it!

Getting back to your original topic, I would suggest that you approach moderators and DUers (within another forum) about the issue.

All the best! :hi:
