I want to go green

I want to switch my career from technical writing (IMO, it is on the wane here) to having a green job. I'm thinking more along the lines of being a green consultant... giving people the means, methods, knowledge to reduce energy use, choosing sustainable materials for building, etc. Exploring the drawbacks and bennies of alternative energies.

I think my apptitude for technical subjects and translating them for the less technically inclined would suit me well here. I'm thinking though that residential and small businesses would me audience. I'm not sure that large enterprises would be open to me.

I am willing to get training and certification for this area, since I don't have a professional background in building or anything construction related. Though I do have some personal background.

But I don't know of any such "green" training program. Do any of you? Alternatively, if you had to design such a program, what would you include?

This just came to mind. I met someone involved in this: http://ucgef.org/. They take trips to China trying to create the business foundation for green technologies including the smart grid. I have not had the time to get involved. Seems interesting though. They seem to be on the ground floor of it all.
