Why keep advertising for a job
when it's already been filled?

:banghead:

:grr:

I answered an ad for an editorial assistant yesterday, even though I'm very overqualified. I got a reply today, "this position has been filled."

I want to punch a wall with my bare fist.

:grr: :grr:

1. I'd like to know the same thing.
Where did you see the ad? Sometimes ads on general job web sites are old ads. They just keep them up there. Sometimes, when the ad actually tells you the name of the company, I'll go to the company's web site to see if the job is listed there. Sometimes it is; often it isn't. And though I know it's sad to say this, you are lucky you even got a reply about the job. That is highly unusual these days. BTW, I'm never contacted for editorial assistant jobs. (I have an MS in journalism.) It is my opinion that they intend to hire kids fresh out of college, to whom they can pay a pittance.

I've got BA in English and about 10+ years of writing/editorial experience. I intend to get a Masters, but repeated layoffs have put a monkey wrench in my plans for financing it. By the time I get it, it will be very a nice accomplishment (always worthwhile) but too late to be much of a career boost, I'm afraid.

The ad was a video ad on a local job board. I just wish that when they fill positions, they'd take down the advertising immediately. There's no point in offering false opportunities.
