Italy court confirms Prodi win!
Italy court confirms Prodi win

Saturday 22 April 2006, 15:49 Makka Time, 12:49 GMT

Centre-left leader Romano Prodi will be the next prime minister

An Italian appeals court has certified the final votes for the Senate in Italy's election, confirming Romano Prodi's coalition had won a two-seat majority in the upper house of Parliament.

The certification of the votes cast by Italians living overseas, which had been widely expected, was the final check needed to confirm the outcome of the vote in the Senate after appeals courts in Italy's 20 regions completed reviews on contested ballots cast during the April 9-10 elections.

<snip>
On Saturday, the electoral office for the foreign vote, which is part of Rome's court of appeals, confirmed the ministry's preliminary distribution of the six Senate seats chosen by Italians living overseas. The office certified that four went to Prodi's coalition, one to Berlusconi's allies and one to an independent party.

1. If Bruscioloni (sp) wants to obstruct this, throw his ass in jail.
You lost, get over it. Don't be a sore loser, man.

3. It is NOT a done deal - they're electing a new President (we hope!)
Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 11:21 PM by Kagemusha
The existing one won't name Prodi as PM, and it takes a TWO THIRDS majority in parliament (I think it's the lower house?) to elect a President.

Do the math. If Berlusconi wants to obstruct in perpetuity, well, he may well be able to, if Prodi doesn't go along with the "right" President. One who owes Berlusconi some favors, that is.

So this is not over.

Edit: This goes down May 12-13 and no their Presidents aren't elected directly by the people.

4. In keeping with the rules I can't post the whole article, but if
you go read it; it says that Berlusconi is speaking in terms of his resignation. It does however say the Senate is split 155 to 154 in Berlusconi's favor. That's not 2/3's though. Okay, well at least the review of the election is in Prodi's slim favor.

6. Just sayin', if Silvio wants to just stall and stall and stall,
I wonder who can stop him, once the previous president resigns?

5. There's Always A Catch....
These Assholes never give up. I don't expect this to go away quietly. That's how they operate, and remain in power. They cheat, lie, FRAUD, deceive....whatever is necessary to maintain control.

They're like vampires. Very difficult to kill, and they keep coming back.
