Dump Cheney for Condi, Bush urged
REPUBLICANS are urging President George W Bush to dump Dick Cheney as vice-president and replace him with Condoleezza Rice if he is serious about presenting a new face to the jaded American public. They believe that only the sacrifice of one or more of the big beasts of the jungle, such as Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, will convince voters that Bush understands the need for a fresh start.

The jittery Republicans claim Bush’s mini-White House reshuffle last week will do nothing to forestall the threat of losing control of Congress in the November mid-term elections. Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard magazine and author of Rebel in Chief, a sympathetic new biography of Bush, said: “There are going to have to be sweeping personnel changes if people are going to take a second look at the Bush presidency.”

Barnes, who is close to the White House, said he believed Cheney would be willing to stand down in order to help Bush. “It’s unlike Bush to dump somebody whom he likes and respects,” he cautioned. “But the president needs to do something shocking and dramatic such as putting in Condoleezza Rice.” Cheney appeared to have beeen caught napping during a visit to the Oval Office by China’s president, Hu Jintao, on Friday, although he claimed he had been looking down at his notes. It has often been said that he would cite medical reasons should he ever resign.

The best scenario, Barnes added, would be for Bush to announce that “Dick Cheney will be around as an outside adviser and I can call him on the phone, but I’d like to anoint somebody who I think will be the next leader of the United States”. Tom Edmonds, a leading Republican consultant, said the White House had failed to grasp that the party was in desperate straits. “I have never talked to so many disenchanted Republicans,” he said. “The president even stonewalled the minor changes he made by talking about how he was really perfectly happy with his team. He didn’t even give himself wiggle room.”

7. Rove is the blivet's 1/2 of the brain, Cheney is the other half.
It's depressingly sad, but hope abounds!

11. Even with this socalled dream team of walking
gray matter, they've still made hilariously atrocious missteps and obviously partisan attacks that turned into horrifically self destructive moves, one right after another. If it weren't so sad, it would be funny...

That being said, this has resulted in the lost of hundreds of thousands of lives all over the gllobe.

18. I love your reference to
'walking gray matter'! They've done everything you've said but got a pass from the corporate media whores.
That has got to stop. I hope you are aware of the election forum, Dean's DNC meeting today in New Orleans, Kerry's speech today in MA.
We're winning a bit at a time; people are waking up!

3. The only way Cheney would EVER step down is IF he really was
dying! I don't think Shrub has an option of "dumping" Cheney. I think he'd simply look at him and sneer, laugh an ugly laugh, and walk away!

6. She's prettier than Jurassic monster Unka Dick
But has breathtakingly bad judgement.

But I have been saying for some time now that this transition is a possibility, because Condi's "story" can be spun well by our idiotic press, and she will be protected from legitimate criticism by playing the race or feminist card, similar to Clarence Thomas's "high tech lynching."

But she is not an independent thinker -- she has made a career for herself as a tool to serve unscrupulous old bastards.

Only fools will buy her as VP or POTUS -- but you can take it to the bank that Mr Rove is working on this.

8. That would be fun. If Bush dumped Cheney for Condi .....
she'd have to be approved by Congress. How delicous ... all the wannabe nominees like Frist, McCain, Allen, Brownback, et al. would go nuts with the prospect of setting up Condi for 2008. Nuts, I tell ya.

16. I see it happening

I see Cheney with a long over due doctor's note that tells us that he needs to rest on his $$'s.

Then they install Lynn Cheney in as ROVE, she is already starting to do the job with speaking engagements. :puke:

And Condi(who has messed up two positions) will be able to babysit Jr. for the rest of his term when she is VP.

Think of her as a Baby Sitter. LOL

13. This was my prediction after the 2004 election
We know Cheney isn't running so it would be stupid to keep Cheney as VP when they could bring in their 2008 candidate now. I assumed Cheney would go after the midterms but since the poll numbers are this low, it probably doesn't matter when he leaves. I thought Rice would be their choice because they are so freakishly scared of Clinton. By running a minority female candidate against Hillary, they probably assume they'll get a strong minority vote.

If he wants to be President, he might have to wait until people stop cringing at the name Bush.

21. Perhaps. He's younger than * and they may want to wait until 2012.
But I really think the cons are going to want to put him "up there." Either as VP or Pres. after the stink has blown over.

The folks in the White House STILL hate Giuliani for being presidential on Sept. 11th while Bush was hiding.
