Nice move, but it's really not going to do much for the individual! BUT it points out something I never thought about! Check the last paragraph. ("The state shouldn't receive a revenue windfall because of an increase in home heating bills)
ALL states are going to benefit BIG TIME from these inflated bills!
The legislation calls for the Georgia sales tax on natural gas to be cut in half during the peak home heating months of January through April 2006. Liquid propane would be cut in half January through March 2006.
In Georgia, natural gas and liquid propane are subject to a 4 percent state tax of the total cost of the commodity. Perdue's Executive Order cuts the state sales tax in half to 2 percent during the peak home heating months.
"Forecasters expect the price of home heating to double this winter," Perdue said. "The state shouldn't receive a revenue windfall because of an increase in home heating bills, so we're asking the legislature to cut the sales tax in half." http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2006/01/09/daily12.html?f=et50&hbx=e_du
