most callers on W.J. didn't want to raise minimum wages!!!!!! |
|
it was bizarre. and their talking point was that if you raised minimum wage then all other costs would go up too.
I got a feeling the subject matter was leaked before W.J. started this morning and these callers were plants.
what did other DU viewers of W.J. think this morning?

3. It's the same old nonsense small business comes up with... |
|
every time, regarding raising the minimum wage. Perphaps small business should fight for more tax breaks instead of denying workers a wage that even though raised you can't get by on. How can you not want people in this country to make a decent wage.

5. Raise wages, more American can buy stuff...like American cars. |
|
It worked very well for the blue-collar class in the 60's when the unions were in their glory.
And the blue collars bought a LOT of American made goods. A lot.

8. What drives the cost of goods is the cost of energy. |
|
It's not wages that drive up the cost of goods as some business people would like us to think.
Why not index the minimum wage to the cost of energy? Then the lowest income people will always at least be keeping up with the increased cost of living.

7. It's exactly the same thing every time |
|
There hasn't been any talk of raising the minimun wage in so long that you may not have heard it before, but the same arguments are used every time. So, those wern't necessarily plants; just parrots.

17. What would help social security would be... |
|
if it were more than just a pyramid scheme that required constant population growth to keep it funded.
It would also be nice if money paid into social security were not just tossed in with the rest of the general funds for congress to spend. Al Gore had a good idea.

10. Any stats on the economy after minimum wage was raised before? |
|
I remember people saying they would lay-off and close down. After it was passed I didn't see anything resembling that.

I do not think minimum wage should be raised.
I do not think it does much to eliminate or reduce poverty. If it did then we wouldnt have to keep bumping it up so much.
In places with higher minimum wages there are just as much problems as in places with lower minimum wage.
