VA deals benefit former chief's firm

WASHINGTON — A California company headed by former Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi could get fees exceeding $1 billion from the Veterans Administration, much of it on contracts approved and amended while he ran the government agency, records show.

Principi was president of the medical-services company in Diamond Bar, QTC Management, before joining the Bush Cabinet in 2001. He ran the VA for four years and returned to the company as chairman of the board.

While he was VA secretary, QTC collected about $246 million, according to VA records. Congressional Budget Office projections show the VA contracts could be worth up to $1.2 billion to QTC if fully funded by Congress through 2008.

2. I'm a senior who uses the VA

I do because I have to. I can't get insurance, other than basic medicare, because of the bad medical history. If I had my druthers, I wouldn't use the VA. Its a beauracy that doesn't give one iota for its patients. If shit happens, more shit happens. Most VA workers do not give a fuck. Their computer medical records, seems to me, is state of the art, but the attitude of most of their employees is 'let 'em eat cake.'
There is an old timey saying: 'No outfit is any better or worse than the man right at the top.' Former RNC head Nicholson heads the VA.
