Whoa! Big story from AP: Rising Gas Prices Hit Poor Hardest
This story from the "No shit, Sherlock" files. Of course, as our President says, "If you don't need gas, don't buy it!"

=====

For most Americans, today's rising gasoline prices are an annoyance, not a serious financial hardship.

Then there are people like Kenneth and Edith Taylor of Baltimore, who already struggle to make their monthly social security checks of less than $1,700 last by cooking casseroles and soups at home instead of eating out and forgoing new clothes for as long as possible. Now, with neighborhood pump prices averaging $2.85 a gallon, the Taylors say they simply cannot afford the 80-mile roundtrip to visit their daughter more than once a month.

"There and back is $10 worth of gasoline," said 84-year-old Kenneth, who used to make the trip in his Buick LeSabre at least every other week.

The Taylor family's increasing frugality may be a drop in the bucket for the world's most voracious energy consuming nation, but it is not inconsequential and could be the start of a broader trend....

Spiro Agnew went down for petty theft compared to this.

6. Jaysis
Are there any jobs nearer where you live? I know it's not always possible to find one, especially when you live out in the country and all the jobs are in town, but good geeawd.

Tell your boss what's going on. If you're a good employee, he'll want to keep you.

5. I read this article yesterday and thought
it was kinda annoying

it starts out with the title being about the poor hit hardest and this concern about serious financial hardship

For most Americans, today's rising gasoline prices are an annoyance, not a serious financial hardship.

Then goes on the talk about someone that needs to take one trip a month rather than two. Lots of snippets about people having to be careful about their travel habits. No where is there anything about financial hardships.

13. I think for middle class Americans the rising gasoline prices....
are more than just an annoyance. The cost of home heating, health insurance, taxes, credit card debt, food are all rising, so adding the price of gasoline on top is starting to bring some hardship to middle class Americans. How can anyone expect to save for the future. The person who wrote that article yesterday is totally out of touch with reality.

14. I lost 20 lbs. last year on the "Exxon/Mobil diet" - couldn't afford both
food & gas, & something had to give.

I predict the Exxon/Mobil diet to be this summer's hottest trend.

16. There are people that budget down to the last dollar and penny....
Naturally, an increase in gas prices is going to hit them someplace else. The poor are going to be hit extra hard. You will notice more cars on the side of the road empty, will be my guess. They will try to make it one last mile on the fumes and it not make it...

17. Oil Pig: Its your fault the prices are high you need to conserve fuel! HA!
Poor Guy: But I only drive to work and to the grocery store
Oil Pig: *oink* *oink* *oink* Uhh... okay then we're switching from Winter to summer grade fuels, blame the democrats... and Iran
Poor Guy: You say this every freaking season.
Oil Pig: *oink* *oink* *oink* If we drilled in Alaska prices would be cheaper

I'd love to toss a few oil execs in prison its not right that they are making insanely huge profits and yet they blame us, they know damn well we don't have a choice.
