Americans are doing great! The economy is flourishing!
Yeah right, the bozo's like to use those talking points, almost making seem like it is your fault that you aren't doing as great as "everyone else".

If you're making thousand in the market you might be doing okay, but a middle class schmuck like me is really feeling the crunch.

My natural gas bill has almost doubled, my electricity is through the roof, and now to fill my tank I am paying half as much more.

I am pissed. I don't drive an SUV, I don't live beyond my means and boy I am really feeling it.

If these people lived in my household, they might have a greater regard for my feeling of how "great" the economy is doing. It sucks, plain and simple, it sucks!

God, how I long for the good 'ol days of a Clinton economy.

I'd rather pay more in taxes than to give my hard earned money to corporation making record profits. I'd rather help people worse off than me in higher taxes, than to be put in the poor house this way.

1. The dirty little secret is that the U.S. is NOT the greatest country

in the World. Our way of life is a "man eater" - even when you "succeed".

Just check out all of the ads everywhere for drugs.

9. Actually, I think it's the median wage that's declining
"Average" wages have gone up a little, I think, but "average" can be a very misleading statistic (like, when Bill Gates walks into a room, the average wealth of the people in the room shoots through the ceiling). There's no such thing as an "average American" -- just "typical Americans."

The median income is the point at which half the population is making less and half is making more. Adjusted for inflation, that number is going down, which means that the standard of living of the "typical American" is falling.

3. The best I heard all weekend was from Herr Bush:
"The good news from Iraq is that they are moving towards a new government. That will make America safer."

HOW THE HELL WILL AN UNWORKABLE AND INEPT TEMPORARY GOVERNMENT IN IRAQ MAKE US SAFER?

No wonder Non Sequiter is so popular in the comic strips these days.

7. Odd that my 2% cost of living raise
Does not keep up with the actual cost of living. I know I am fortunate to have a job to give me a raise and health insurance, but still. Bills are going up way faster than my income and I think I am probably lucky with my job and benefits. I don't want to think about life without it!:scared:

5. MassDemm, you are feeling the pain of our flourishing economy.....
like the majority of Americans. The problem is that most of us are paying for the elite class' boom in wealth. The money grab will continue as long as the congress and WH are in collusion with greedy corporate ameica, wall street manipulators, loan shark financial institutions and investors demanding unrealistic returns on their investments. This broken nation needs more people thinking the way you do.

6. And things are going great in Iraq too!
Bush's credibility dims every day as he refuses to acknowlege the simple facts of most Americans lives like those you enumerated.

Edited on Sun Apr-23-06 01:07 PM by Neil Lisst
Bush's tax cuts, such as they are, cannot offset the gasoline increases Americans have seen.

10. I just LOVE IT when he says that!
You can lie to the citizenry about all kinds of things and get away with it - but you can't lie to them about what's going on IN THEIR OWN LIVES.

Every time I hear Bush or any Repub making statements about how well the economy is doing, I hear another batch of disillusioned Repub voters yelling, "That's it. This guy is lying to us - what ELSE has he lied about?"

The Dems no longer need to point out the fact that the GOP is totaly out of touch with the average citizen - the GOP are broadcasting that message themselves on a daily basis.
