I normally avoid WND, but since this makes them look silly it was worth a visit.
Note the end: isn't that precisely the sort of thing * is proposing? And if it was "too little, too late" in 2000, then how bad is Smirk waiting until January of 2006 to mention it.
Remember - these "soaring prices" were about HALF of what we're paying now. Why aren't they proposing to repeal the federal tax NOW, if that was the solution THEN? Maybe they now realize we had it pretty good under Clinton...

You've seen the video clip on TV news shows over and over again. Vice President Al Gore standing there doing what he does best -- pandering to people's emotions, championing lower gas prices and ignoring the reality of what his administration has contributed to the problem.
"I think it's time to put our feet on the brakes of what may well be Big Oil's price-gouging," he says.
Big Oil. Isn't that funny? Clinton and Gore policies are not responsible. It's those bad guys in Big Oil, whatever that is.
:snip:
What should be done about gas prices? At least 22.6 cents of the cost per gallon is the result of federal taxes. Those should not only be suspended, as some in Congress are now saying. They should be eliminated now, forever -- permanently. Why should the government get a cut of your daily transaction at the gas pump -- especially when you are using income that has already been taxed at least once already?
:snip:
What's Gore's latest response? As gasoline prices and frustration at the pumps soar, he unveils a Carteresque multibillion-dollar national energy strategy that includes a proposal for weaning America off its reliance on foreign oil with tax incentives for building and buying energy-saving products.
That's what I would call way too little, way too late.
It will not make consumers happy. Now let's see if they're smart enough to realize just who is responsible.

And, remember, at the time Smirk said that Clinton "must jawbone OPEC members to lower prices."
Wish he would try that himself on Bandar Bush.
