8. I like Andy Rooney's cute curmudgeon thing on 60 Minutes, but...
...he seems like a remarkably unpleasant man otherwise. David Letterman has been quoted as saying that he thought Rooney a major disappointment the first time he interviewed him back at NBC -- snarky and surly, and downright uncommunicative.

I just saw him being interviewed on "Da Ali G Show", and either he found Sacha Baron Cohen really convincing, or he doesn't appreciate satirical silliness for its own sake, or he's just a nasty old coot with no discernible sense of humour. More or less, his attitude was "I don't have time for this" -- that is, when he wasn't actually correcting Ali G's English.

Even Pat Buchanan was nicer to Ali G than Andy Rooney was, perhaps because he understood what was going on. Gore Vidal got the joke, too.

9. How many more need to come forward?
If people don't get it by now - Richard Clarke, Joe Wilson, Paul O'Neill et al (lots) - then when will they? I hope this hardens those who criticize Bush. The hard core one-third that supports him will never, ever change, no matter what. But the 60 percent who have had it - the number that despise, not merely criticize, needs to go up.

13. Bartlett's statement was VERY disingenuous!!!
His statement that a bipartisan commission...determined that no influence by the White House on the outcome of intelligence was found.

Well, asshole, Phase II of the Senate Select Investigative Committee's report is supposed to determine that and we STILL don't have that report!

44. RawStory reported the Phase II report was due soon..but...
Roberts, I believe, was quoted as saying he wants to "move forward" and look to Iran.

Something tells me the report either contains some damning info and they will try to keep it quiet or they managed to whitewash it completely and want to move forward on spiking the punch so Iran can be attacked.

with people coming out and speaking, it doesn't seem to stick with MSM... Look at the Downing Street Minutes and the latest memo out of the UK.... nada, nothing becomes of it. They let it fade into the background.

the Niger docs, I listen to Talk Left on Sirius and I know that the CIA had top level leak
in Sadaam's cabinet but I never heard how the WH shut off when the info was not in support
of their policy or that the State Dept. had categorically rejected the Niger documents as
bogus or that the UN had declared them forgeries before we marched on Baghdad.

24. Lying in the SOTU is literally TREASON
But of course, Bushistas will continue to say "he couldn't have known! Our president wouldn't do that!" In fact, it's not even Bushistas, I think Americans in general have a hard time accepting the fact that our president could intentionally commit treason in order to start a war. To believe that would force them to accept that we really do have a criminal in office, and that we're living in Banana Republic. It is simply too much for most to wrap their heads around.

Like that bimbo who boasted in the Inquirer of being the the person who shot-up John Belushi before the police finally said, duh! - and she was convicted and did time. -- It seems like instant replay with the 20/20 piece, especially watching Bush use Niger info as solid proof for arguement to kill 2400 more US. citizens and 100,000+ Iraqi civilians. this is so deep!

And I hope this was a good wake-up call for them. That was the retired head of covert CIA ops in Europe saying the Executive Branch of the US government willfully and knowingly deceived the American people, not just some low-level staffer.

42. Yes - Tyler Drumheller was CIA's European chief during the runup to war

Bush was warned there were no WMD, says former CIA man

By Andrew Gumbel in Los Angeles
Published: 24 April 2006

The Central Intelligence Agency tried to warn the Bush administration on the eve of the 2003 invasion of Iraq that Saddam Hussein did not appear to have weapons of mass destruction but the warning was dismissed because the US political leadership was not interested in what the intelligence showed, according to a retired senior CIA operative.

The revelation, by the CIA's former European chief Tyler Drumheller, was broadcast on CBS's news magazine Sixty Minutes last night and added to the body of evidence that US and British leaders saw the weapons of mass destruction issue only as a selling point for a war they had already decided to wage for other reasons.

According to Mr Drumheller, Western intelligence services were told about Iraq's lack of chemical and biological weapons by Naji Sabri, a former Iraqi foreign minister. The CIA director of the time, George Tenet, took this information straight to President George Bush, Vice-President Dick Cheney and other senior officials, but it made no impression on them.
