Bush Brandishes Jail Time at Critics
Bush Brandishes Jail Time at Critics

Over the past five-plus years, the American people have gotten a taste of what a triumphant George W. Bush is like, as he basked in high approval ratings and asserted virtually unlimited powers as Commander in Chief. Now, the question is: How will Bush and his inner circle behave when cornered?

So far, the answer should send chills through today’s weakened American Republic. Bush and his team – faced with plunging poll numbers and cascading disclosures of wrongdoing – appear determined to punish and criminalize resistance to their regime.

That is the significance of recent threats from the administration and its supporters who bandy about terms like sedition, espionage and treason when referring to investigative journalists, government whistle-blowers and even retired military generals – critics who have exposed Executive Branch illegalities, incompetence and deceptions.

CIA Director Porter Goss, a former Republican congressman long regarded as a political partisan, has escalated pressure on intelligence officials suspected of leaking secrets about Bush’s warrantless wiretapping of Americans and the torture of detainees held in clandestine prisons in Asia and Eastern Europe.

1. GEEZ - Robert Parry is just the BEST REAL JOURNALIST on the internet.
It's easy to see why the corporate media will never allow Parry any airtime. They shut him down for his work uncovering IranContra and he's been blacklisted ever since.

7. Hell, after indictment, even friends become "unknown"
After all, loyalty is a one-way street for Bushco.

And we all know what direction that is.

9. Porter Goss? I'm sorry to hear that. I had high hopes for him,
when I saw what difficulty he had not roaring aloud with laughter at the enormous "porky" Bush was peddling to his audience, i.e that the whole of the CIA was right then committed around the clock to hunting down Osama Bin Laden. Not word for word, but that was the gist.

Doesn't he have an association with some of the CIA's darker activies in recent decades?

14. Well, it was a jocular comment, really. But a sense of humour
in the court of the Emperor with no clothes is not necessarily an ideal atribute for a courtier.

35. Me too. I had him correctly pegged as a PARTISAN REPUKE from the get-go.
All his claims of "impartiality" that he was spewing at his confirmation hearings - that "holy joe" endorsed - was just so much garbage!

19. Oh, no. Goss is a real Yalie. Don't expect anyting from him!
Just give it up on this guy. An inbred Yalie from the word go, according to a friend who was in his class at Yale.

25. I guess because Bill and Hillary were Yalies too,
we shouldn't have expected anything from them either! Don't get me wrong, Yalies past and present have a "way" about them that push my buttons, but this is too broad a "brushstroke" even for me! DC

26. I should have been more explicit
Porter Goss is one kind of Yalie; Bill and Hillary are cut from another mold. Goss is "old boy network" Yale, went to Yale as an undergrad. Bill and Hillary went to the Law School. The old Repub. Eli's don't consider those in the grad schools at Yale to be the "real" Yale. It's more than a little stupid, of course, and I share your "button" on Yale.

The real mold breaker on this is John Kerry, since he is somewhat in the "old boy" category. HOwever, his Roman Catholicism precluded him being considered an authentic Eli by the old boys. Another stupid thing. But then, Kerry did join Skull and Bones...

The inside story at the Ivy League is maddening. Yale, however, considers itself as training the next leaders of the United States. They are "special." When you consider how many presidents went to Yale, you do have to wonder.

36. My sister is a Yalie and a damn good LIBERAL DEMOCRAT too!
Just because some are slime, don't use the broad brush to paint all of them.

That is totally uncalled for.

The overwhelming majority of Yalies are great persons!

The few goons were goons as students, and were easy to spot even then.

43. Why are you "jumping" on me?
I said the same thing you did!??????????? My only problem with Yalies was when, as a Realtor with one of the biggest firms in NH, the undergrads would come to me looking for apts. for the semester, and wanted "exactly what they wanted, when they wanted it, and for what price they wanted! (like yesterday wasn't soon enough!!) They had the nastiest attitudes of any group of young adults I've ever come accross. POMPOUS SNOBS!!

on whether the WH cooked the intelligence to invade Iraq. Really, it's puzzling that they would continue to put off their white wash as more and more evidence comes out (Downing St. memos, British and American intel officers speaking out)showing that without a doubt the bush gang flat out lied. I just figured out why they haven't pushed this issue under the rug for bushco. It's their only protection against him. It's something that they can hold over his head.

27. Guess what, sportsfans? In a time of "war", they aren't just hinting at
JAILTIME when they throw terms like sedition and treason around. They are making tacit threats of EXECUTION. That's right: the DEATH PENALTY.

If you think these vicious thugs are just talking about a little trip to the slammer, you have seriously underestimated them.

31. He doesn't intimidate anyone anymore.
He is weaker now than he has ever been. It was scary when 911 happened but now he is simply a laughingstock. Fox had him at a 35% approval rating so more than likely he will hit the 20's very soon.

This is nothing new folks. We all remember the dictator quote and even then the guy couldn't do jack shit with all the help in world.

He is the one who will wind up in jail. Not the public.

It's called free speech.
If they don't like it, they can come and get me.

Congressional Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom!

They are the TRUE patriots!

We must HOUND our so-called "Democratic Leadership" to make an issue of this and to CONDEMN the ILLEGAL activities of the REPUKES and this CRIMINAL misadministration!

We should be ENCOURAGING and REWARDING more CIA and other government officials to do the exact same thing and EXPOSE this CRIMINAL ACTITITY wherever it is occuring!

bush* and the REPUKES should be sent to PRISON for what they are doing!

So true. There is no telling what these guys might do once truly in a corner.

is to put him and his cabal in prison for crimes against humanity, sedition and just being ugly. Goddamned, when will this country get a set of balls and get rid of the madmen running it? Are we really going to wait untill they nuke Iran before getting on it?
Fuck bushit and his idiot bunch of corporate lakeys. What we really need to do is make corporations non citizens, or whatever the law is that makes a corporation have the same weight in court as a person. TAX THE CORPORATIONS.

They'll build camps.
And they will use the crematoriums to produce electric for their buddies, while dissenters pay the ultimate price for it.

Goddamn cocksucking bastards, isn't there SOME fucking way to get rid of these assholes before they COMPLETELY destroy this country, and make us a fucking Third-World nation?? Before they turn us all into slaves and serfs?
