Protesters outside fundraiser shout, picket against Bush (Desert Sun)
(Amazing! Indian Wells is 98 percent GOP, but look who shows up! --RD)

INDIAN WELLS - More than 100 protesters with signs that read "Bring our troops home" and "Drop Bush, not bombs" lined the stretch of Country Club Drive leading to the fundraiser President Bush spoke at Saturday that raised nearly $2 million for the Republican National Committee.

Limited parking forced organizers to bus in protesters from a nearby location. They chanted "Impeach Bush now" to the beat of a conga drum as the president's motorcade passed by.

"I didn't think that we'd be protesting a second war," said Jess Stoddart, a 68-year-old Palm Desert woman who had demonstrated against the Vietnam War.

2. $2 million at one event. Astounding. That top 1% doing better than well.
Those of us who are normal slugs have no conception of just how much Bush has successfully driven money into the hands of an elite, plutocratic few. It was a primary goal going into his presidency, and the single most successful thing he has done. How many people were at this event? Does anyone know? Was this, like, $10,000 a plate? Sounds about right; 200 people attending. My God. Don't underestimate his success with his "base," who are more these people than even the Religious Right, who are being played for boobs.

3. Their estates could be blanketed in soot from the Test Site on June 2.
All it would take would be hot weather and a strong southwesterly offshore flow resulting in Santa Ana winds across the desert on June 2 and guess what? Black dust rains down on their estates and golf courses and Jaguars from the explosives set off at the Nevada Test Site. Didn't these rich donors get that memo?
