I don't mean disrespect to our DU'rs in the South

Please accept my apologies if I offended you as some of you said I was bashing the South.

Until the last general election, I had no idea of the demographics of the South. I had no idea they were as religious as they are or as extreme in their beliefs. It appalled me that Rove was able to manipulate them like he did. I was shocked at their vote solely based on social/religious conservative issues.

Again, I meant no offense to our Du'rs from the South.

A blue state voted 60% Kerry, 40% Bush, and a red state the same proportions, but reversed. (Except for a couple, like Utah!)

There are great liberals in the South -- just a few more loud mouth conservatives.

It doesn't help to paint the whole south with the same brush -- it's not like the north is a liberal paradise, anyway.

South for 19 years, and the Yankees don't consider me one of them anymore either!

You almost have to live here for several years to recognize what the culture is really like. I don't know where you're from or what made you recognize what most of the South is really like, but it sounds like you are at least trying to understand. Thanks.

I was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Miami, but I still consider myself a Yankee. I am not religious, and in fact, I am an atheist, so not all of us here in the South are controlled by the religious right wing.

Some spots are incredibly right-wing. While you will occasionally find an oasis that is at least moderate or even left-leaning.

south florida but we are truly an annex of the north. more new england, nj, mich and canada here . . . and cuba . . . than real 'southerners'. please keep that in mind when you are generalizing about fundies. thanks.
