Screen Actors Guild members support lowering voting age
The Screen Actors Guild had its annual national meeting today (Sunday). At the meeting, the members voted by more than a 3 to 1 margin for the Screen Actors Guild to support the lowering of the voting age. The young actor who stood up to make the the motion spoke of how actors and actresses under 18 work and pay taxes and how over 350 Americans have died in Iraq before their first opportunity to vote for President because the 18 year old voting age is too high. As for sources, I was there and you can ask anyone else who was there, such as Alan Rosenberg (the President of the Screen Actors Guild) who voted for the motion. The Screen Actors Guild is clearly one of the most enlightened organizations in America and the civil rights leader in America. I'm so proud of the organization and its officers and its board members who voted today for the motion. A big thank you to Alan, Pam, Anne-Marie and the rest of the officers and board members.

This overwhelming support for the lowering of the voting age reflects a feeling among a great many individuals that America's youth deserve to have a say in their lives. Last year, a resolution calling for the lowering of the voting age was unanimously adopted by the California Democratic Party.

1. Let's lower the drinking age, too
If people are old enough to vote and join the army,
they should be old enough to drink, too.

3. I don't really agree
Not sure if raising it would help, either, but how low should we get?

4. Having been under 18 once
I'm pretty sure, I was way to stupid to vote then, so it is unlikely having children under 18 vote will provide anything positive.

6. I know this is an overgeneralization, but my experience has been that

a lot of kids under 18 give the president a free pass and believe anything he says. Either that or they don't give a shit what's going on. Considering the SAG is not a conservative PAC or right-leaning, this vote defies logic, even if it's symbolic to the tax-paying minor members.
