Would you like to see Dick Cheney retire?

In light of a recent editorial in the LA Times calling for Dick Cheney to resign, would you like to see it happen? There's no doubt that it would be better for the country in the short run, but what about the long term implications? Whoever Bush would nominate would have the inside track on the Republican nomination in 08. If he picked someone with energy and political savvy, he/she might be able to pull off the presidency in the general election. So what do you think...is it better to remove the evil mastermind behind Bush's push for global domination? Or is it better to let him weigh down the Bush administration so that the Democrats have a better chance to regain leadership of America?

And, to answer your question, even if he does retire, nothing will change. Its the same people pulling strings.


Consider the whole Tom DeLay ordeal.

He will be gone, yes. But he will still be a major player in the Republican scene, he will still be a major puppetmaster, and the changes he pushed are still in effect, ruining our country.

What's worse, he now will be a private citizen and won't have the same legal constraints that may have held him back somewhat in the past.

4. I disagree that a Cheney replacement would have an advantage...

on the contrary, being connected to this administration would probably be a DISadvantage. Can you think of any Republican presidential contender outside the administration who would accept the VP job if Cheney retired (Frist, McCain, Giuliani, etc.)? Me neither.

So, given that his resignation would help the country, weaken this administration and the GOP in general and -- in my opinion -- weaken whatever presidential hopeful replaced Cheney, I'm all for it.

And besides the political reasoning, it's just the right thing to do.

Also, he really needs to spend more time with his family :evilgrin:

The way he's been kissing up to Bush, you know how much he wants it. I don't know if Bush would appoint him or Condi, but McCain wants to be president so bad, he'd do anything.

I would prefer the serve out his term and then go directly to jail. I don't think he will make it to 2008 anyhow. I think the plan is already in the works for him to step down so they can grab another election.

and his most likely replacement will be Condi Rice, who Rove probably figures
is the only Republican with both name recognition and a ghost of a chance
as things stand now.

I'd hate to lose both the Cheney lightning rod, and to give the right wing this
head start on the 2008 race. He's been in this long--let him take the heat a while
longer--then indict his nasty ass as soon as Gonzalez is no longer Atoorney General,
i.e. the day of the 2009 inauguration-assuming Rove lets one take place.
