They would hunt down the person that exposed the story and see to it that they were fittingly punished. It would be a matter of national security. Their supporters would argue that it was all "partisan" politics and that there was no truth to the matter. The person that felt compelled to expose the story would be vilified on right-wing radio and no prison would be too good for them...

...would happily rationalize it all away as being necessary and good, and then proceed to trash anyone who was horrified by this as "filthy liberals pursuing a partisan witch hunt." They would then start to quote the bible, to prove that molesting children is not only their right, but their duty as loyal christians. 33 percent of the country would nod their heads in agreement with them.
