Any suggestions for a Book Club?

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for my book club. The other members of the group are liberal, but not as well versed as the average DU member in the atrocities of this administration. When my turn comes to pick the book I want to pick a non-fiction political book, but I need one that will be easy to comprehend without an in-depth knowledge of what's going on (I'm hoping they will leave with a more in depth knowledge). I thought Richard Clarke's Against All Enemy's was a good book that was easy to understand, but I am not allowed to choose that because I've already read it. any thoughts?

4. I mentioned this in another thread, read

The Messiah of Morris Avenue" by Tony Hendra. Puts a real spin on today's religion and will give your members a lot to talk about.

The book takes the premise that religion takes over every aspect of our lives and our government in the not so distant future and how one, quiet, unassuming man takes on the Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell wannabes.

*Sorry - my eyes just skipped right over the non-fiction request. It is still a good book.

5. "Worse than Watergate" is a great book, well written and well

researched. It is an easy read too. It won't bog you down like some of Chomsky's work.

"Jawbreaker" is another good work that gives you insight into the war in Afghanistan and how the suits helped lose Osama.

Good, easy-to-understand chronicle of the Bush Administration's misdeeds.

Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror. It is a great book! I read it in like two days.

12. I would recommend Kevin Phillip's latest

American Theocracy

It is an in-depth study of the decline and fall of the American empire, and how the emergence of an economy that is deeply in debt, overly dependent on a single energy source, oil, and run by radically religious people is a serious sign of our nation's decline and impending fall.

Quite the good read, I finished it over the weekend. As always, Phillips is knowledgable, insightful, and quite readable.
