Something wicked this way comes
It's only April so I can't see any 'emergency' reason for it. Today they cancelled my niece's leave that she was going to use to get married...in JUNE. Actually the end of June.

She's in the Navy, a nuke, on a carrier. A carrier that is supposed to go to Japan next January.

Cancelling midsummer leaves now is NOT a good omen.

They haven't been able to get transferred to be with each other and it has been over a year.
However, he got permission to instruct a class in San Diego for 3 weeks so that they could spend some time together, but now her ship is going to be deployed.
She is on the Bonhomme Richard.
Something wicked indeed.

9. June and Iran
Iran had planed to start selling oil via euros starting in March 06, but for some reason put it off! What bothers me was the fact that they were going to re-start the euro oil bourse in June this year.

I've read allot about this and i've come to the conclusion that thats the real reason Bu$h went into Iraq, seems Saddam had the same plan back in 2003. The fact that the world oil supply is sold only using US greenbacks, and any oil rich country trying to sell oil using euros would cause this oil inspired admin to go to war.

what to do? republican answer: lock up immigrants. people will demand leadership to 'provide better for The People" and instead of doing that, they will scapegoat and just make things worse.

20. Administration out of control!
I've read a couple of post here on DU, that suggest some state houses will be calling for impeachment of the Bu$h admin. I know it's a long shot, but i'm hopeful that it will get the attention of the congress.

The state houses or were the peoples voices are heard the loudest, so if you can let your state house know how you fell perhaps they will get on board as well.

40. From Z mag, an article supporting what you say:
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Iraq/Iraq_dollar_vs_euro.html

Here's a brief excerpt:

Oil can be bought from OPEC only if you have dollars. Non-oil producing countries, such as most underdeveloped countries and Japan, first have to sell their goods to earn dollars with which they can purchase oil. If they cannot earn enough dollars, then they have to borrow dollars from the WB/IMF, which have to be paid back, with interest, in dollars. This creates a great demand for dollars outside the U.S. In contrast, the U.S. only has to print dollar bills in exchange for goods. Even for its own oil imports, the U.S. can print dollar bills without exporting or selling its goods. For instance, in 2003 the current U.S. account deficit and external debt has been running at more than $500 billion. Put in simple terms, the U.S. will receive $500 billion more in goods and services from other countries than it will provide them. The imported goods are paid by printing dollar bills, i.e., "fiat" dollars.

47. Damn, how sick does that seem? Or is it just me? Bingo, though, there's
the incentive. Dumb me, I thought money was just money at face value, but in fact, you exchange $$ into US Dollars to buy oil, and it's more pennies on the dollar.

Thanks for posting this, and Welcome to DU! :hi: Nice to have more economists on board! Maybe this warrants a separate discussion thread. Interesting topic.

and I'm hoping this one garners some attention. The U.S. just stopped publishing how many U.S. dollars are held in reserve overseas. They're really afraid that the dollar is going to crash, and people will notice, and that will cause it to crash more.

30. HERE'S what they're up to...
1. Do whatever they're going to do with Iran in the summer, and give the people some time--not to accept it, but to at least internalize it.
2. Then by November, play the old "A vote against bu$h is a vote for the terrorists" bullshit.
3. Then institute the widest-reaching draft we've ever seen. And pass a fat, permanent tax cut for the billionaires, to boot.

And it will probably work, too. At the cost of millions of lives in the short term, and the survival of the planet over the long haul. And they will think this a price worth paying, primarily because we (the common folk who have no contingency in such an awful event) will be the ones to pay it.

May God have mercy on us all.

Her carrier was the first nuke to be accepted by the Japanese for stationing there and was to replace the retiring carrier in Jan. 2007.

It's not such a long haul from the east coast. And the fact is that troop movements are never given by specific dates any more. The leave in June being cancelled could very well mean that her ship will be leaving for the gulf within the next 2 weeks.

41. U.S. TO CONDUCT MILITARY EXERCISES OFF GUAM
The U.S. military plans to gather three aircraft carriers off Guam this summer for exercises that will mark the first time since the Vietnam War that so many of the ships have operated in the Pacific Ocean together.

U.S. Air Force planes and Marines also will participate in the June maneuvers.

<snip>

Cossa said the June maneuvers would demonstrate to Iran and North Korea that, despite the U.S. focus on the war in Iraq, the United States would have resources at its disposal in the event of a military confrontation with either country over its respective nuclear program.

Cossa said it was unlikely the United States aims to send China a message with the exercises even though that might be a popular interpretation of U.S. intentions.

43. Iran to carry out large-scale military exercises
Several hours after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on the Iranian nuclear program, Iran announced on starting large-scale military exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. The navy, land and air forces, naval and rocket units of the Iranian Army, as well as paramilitary units of the Islamic militia will participate in the exercises.

Overall, 17,000 servicemen, 1,500 vessels, fighters and bomber aircraft will be engaged in the military exercises. A training launch of a ballistic missile with 500 km range is also planned, reports RSN. The Iranian leadership announced that the “maneuvers are to be held to counteract the psychological war waged against Iran.” It is noteworthy, the exercises will be held in the gulf, through which about 80% of the oil extracted in the Persian Gulf is transferred.
