1. Daily Show, but...
With both of them I could do without the interviews.

2. Me, too
Colbert's constant sarcastic play on O'Lielly gets old to me. Jon Stewart has more variety in his routines.

It would help Colbert to get some supporting comics, IMO.

18. I'd vote on your poll if you added both
I like the main course of the daily show
but the dinner would not be complete
without the intellectual dessert and brandy of the Colbert Report.

Does that metaphor I gave sound enough like an
"effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as intellectuals". ----------(spiro agnew)

Now change the damn poll..................LOL

25. TDS was better during the election, but I'm leaning toward Colbert
The stunts that Colbert pulls are hillarious and as an actor I have a great deal of respect for the character acting that he does on the show. I almost pissed my pants when he had James Webb on and said "By the way I hear that George Allen is dumb as a post, but that's a good thing because I hate intellectuals" because statements like that are so true on so many levels.

It's really a different type of humor and it depends on your taste. Also, to appreciate Colbert's humor, you have to have a bit more in-depth knowledge of political topics than you do to appreciate Jon Stewart. I greatly appreciated the Duke Cunningham segment that he did tonight, but I'm a political junkie who was overjoyed when Cunningham resigned. To see Colbert create a sarcastic cult of personality around Duke Cunningham is just brilliant. But again, I can't see that many people appreciating it like I do.

As far as the Daily Show and Jon Stewart goes, it seems like Stewart is kind of outgrowing his position and is ready to move on to bigger and better things. I still love his show (thank god that I get to watch both), but it was definately funnier 2-3 years ago.

30. Colbert is insane.
To keep that character up day in and day out, every show...

Its, just. ... ... insane...

But he does the character well, and it is hilarious.

32. Just got the cable version of tivo
this month and have been recording both - otherwise I would probably never see either one - I really don't watch tv except for West Wing - so this fast forwarding tivo thing is just the ticket - can watch what I want and move on. I had to vote for Colbert because, although I can't for the life of me remember what it was he did something on one of these recent shows that made me laugh so hard I almost fell off the couch....but truthfully I like them both.

33. Colbert
has more brilliant moments, IMO, but TDS is more solid... sometimes I'm nervous for Colbert in his interviews, though I love his "Better Know a District" segment where every district is the "fightin'" whatever # it is. And he always gets them to say they took money from Jack Abramoff and asks if Bush is a great president or the greatest president ever... sorry, I could go on. sooo funny.

34. Colbert just barely edges out the Daily
I can't believe I'm writing this, but I'm leaning toward the Report. It's just got more energy.

Colbert staying in character during the interviews-which are predominantly political figures and authors-allows him to mine for more comedy, whereas Jon either gears down to ask earnest questions of the serious guests or fumbles the interviews with the celebrities ("So, you're, uh, in this big movie, m'friend... I thought that... being in Half Baked... would help my career but, ehhhh, not so much."). Either way, TDS is usually pretty much downhill after the correspondent pieces.
