Tomorrow, the University of Nebraska-Omaha College Democrats are presenting a Tribute to the Fallen for all the soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq. Tonight, at our regular weekly meeting, (and several hours after), we set up the flags for the event, 2,390 of them. I wish I had some of the pictures so that I could show them. But it is truly an amazing sight. Tomorrow, all day, we will read off the names of the fallen. It's a somber thing, but also very empowering to be involved in something so big. It's one thing to be that campus organization that sells "Fuck Bush" buttons in the middle of the reddest of red states - and we do. It's another to work non-stop for change. That's us, too. But this isn't about politics. It's about respect for those who would give their lives for their country. It's about honoring the sacrifice of those who died in Iraq. It's about reminding people of the ultimate cost of this war. The people responsible for putting this together are some of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met. And it's contagious. I don't ever doubt that we have the power to change things. Even in Omaha, Nebraska.
