BREAKING: Riots, tear gas fired near Condoleeza Rice Athens visit (AP)
Getting reports of this from BBC Five Live and some newspapers in Europe. Here's one such report:

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/25/news/web.0425rice3.php

ATHENS, Greece Riot squads fired tear gas Tuesday at masked youths hurling gasoline bombs and rocks after they tried to break through a police cordon to reach the building where U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was meeting with the Greek foreign minister.

The youths set fire to at least one delivery van and smashed many store fronts in one of Athens' premier shopping areas as they were chased by police away from central Syntagma Square. The violence and more than a dozen tear gas canisters fired by police led to the breakup of a demonstration by about 3,000 people who had gathered in two separate rallies. One had been organized by the Communist Party and another by anti-globalization activists.

The clashes broke out as Rice met with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis and a couple of hours before she was to meet with Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis.
Police had warned protesters not to try to march into the square.
"Condoleezza killer go home, hands off Iran," read one banner at the Communist gathering, attended by more than 2,000 people. Speakers condemned the United States on issues ranging from the embargo on Cuba to NATO's 1999 bombing of Serbia.

23. I wonder if the American people
get it yet, why are we so timid to do something. These people from other countries know what kind of thugs we have in our government, what will it take for Americans to stand up against these evil people.

25. It's just not become personal to most of America
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 08:14 AM by Roland99
What affects most Americans are things that affect their wallet or, more generally, things that affect their lives directly. Iraq is thousands of miles away and most people don't have loved ones serving in theater.

You know what's ironic about this? Americans have become MORE selfish/self-centered and MORE worried about their own happiness than others. They are MORE individualistic which is one of the things the Islamists, going back to Sayyid Qutb, despise about the west, specifically, America. And the neoconservative opinion of such a lifestyle isn't much different.

6. yet, people forget the problems she has caused.
She still has support across party lines - only because NOT ONCE has anyone discussed her actual job performance.

Why is she getting a pass? because she is female? because she is black? Both? I don't get it.

I only wish the people of our own country were as aware of the world's problems as most other nation's people. What is it going to take to wake up our own sleeping citizenry?

And here I heard from the Corporate Press that her fashion sense would "WOW them" like it did the Europeans.

Could it be that people overseas actually get news that hasn't been f**ked with by PSYOPS and/or Rove-Co's office? Could it be that the American Sheeple don't have a clue as to how much the World Community hates our Administration and the wannabe Empire they are striving for? Could it be that these and other peoples are getting unvarnished NEWS?!?

30. VIDEO: Rice's visit to Greece sparks violence (Euronews)
http://euronews.net/create_html.php?page=detail_info&article=355851&lng=1#

A visit to Greece by the US Secretary of State has sparked mass protests in the capital. Thousands of people, mostly leftist and anti-war activists, have gathered, demanding that Condoleezza Rice leave the country. Large numbers of police have been deployed around Athens.

The demonstrators had vowed to march on the heavily protected US embassy but were pushed back by riot police firing tear gas. The rally turned violent when some protesters including a small group of anarchists clashed with security forces. They threw fire-bombs, burnt cars and smashed shop windows. There have been no reports of injuries.

There is a long tradition in Greece of activists protesting against visits from US officials. Away from the violence, Rice was greeted by her Greek counterpart, meeting later with the Prime Minister. She said on the agenda were discussions on the Balkans and ways to end the division on the island of Cyprus. Rice is on a five-day tour of Europe - her next stop is Turkey.
