Have you seen this honda commercial, pretty dang cool

Read this info first, then watch the clip at the end.

And you thought those people that set up roomfuls of dominos to knock over
were amazing. There are no computer graphics or digital tricks in the film.
Everything you see really happened in real time exactly as you see it.

The film took 606 takes. On the first 605 takes, something, usually very
minor, didn't work. They would then have to set the whole thing up again.
The crew spent weeks shooting night and day. By the time it was over, they
were ready to change professions.

The film cost $6M and took three months to complete including full
engineering of the sequence. In addition, it's two minutes long so every
time Honda airs the film on British television, they're shelling out enough
dough to keep any one of us in clover for a lifetime.

However, it is fast becoming the most downloaded advertisement in Internet
history. Honda executives figure the ad will soon pay for itself simply in
"free viewings" (Honda isn't paying a dime to have you watch this
commercial!).

When the ad was pitched to senior executives, they signed off on it
immediately without any hesitation - including the costs.

There are six and only six hand-made Honda Accords in the world. To the
horror of Honda engineers, the filmmakers disassembled two of them to make
the film. Everything you see in the film (aside from the walls, floor,
ramp, and complete Honda Accord) is parts from those two cars.

The voiceover is Garrison Keillor. When the ad was shown to Honda
executives, they liked it and commented on how amazing computer graphics
have gotten. They fell off their chairs when they found out it was for
real. Oh, and about those funky windshield wipers. On the new Accords, the
windshield wipers have water sensors and are designed to start doing their
thing automatically as soon as they become wet.

5. That's pretty darn cool.
Did you find yourself holding your breath waiting for the next thing to happen?

It's nice to see something new for a change. I'm sick and tired of seeing those stupid Geico/caveman commercials.

12. My 97 Accord has over 150k miles on it. Why would I buy something
else?

American car manufacturers lost me many years ago and have done nothing to get me back.

14. You completely missed the entire point
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 10:45 AM by DainBramaged
I was referring to Geico and the lizard they use in commercials, hence "would you buy insurance from a lizard".

:wtf:

On edit,

Make sure at every turn you tell the world how much you hate American auto manufacturers. :spank:

20. Sorry. I am not much of tv watcher. I am not picking on American
manufacturers - but I have had some very bad American cars and some very good Honda's (and VW's). If I pick up consumer reports auto issue I see Honda's ranking consistently high.

Give me a good reason to buy an American car. Show me the data.

I see Honda plants in the US giving people good jobs, health insurance, and making good cars. I also see GM mis-managing itself to the edge of bankruptcy.

Give me a good reason to buy an American car. Show me the data.

My 97 Accord has been getting over 30 miles a gallon since I bought it. My next car will probably be a hybrid. Honda and Toyota have been making them for years and have developed a dependable technology.

17. We have had good luck with our fords. I had a '74 f100 that had
268,000 confirmed miles on it when I sold it several years ago. I still see it from time to time. I was the first person to do anything to the engine except filters, hoses, belts, plugs etc. I put a kit in the carb at around 200,000 miles. one of my friends dad bought it new and passed it down to him then I bought it. 390 engine and it got 18 miles to the gallon in the winter and 20 in the summer. As I look back I wished I had never sold it. But that is why they make so many different brands. if any were so much better than the rest they would be the only thing that sells after a while don't you think. I bought a new f150 in '98 and it only gets 15 miles per gallon.
how does that work.

11. The original short film was called "The Way Things Work,"
and came out about 15 or so years ago. I recorded it on tape from PBS, still have it someplace. It comprised a complete physics text in iteslf, as well as a nostalgic nod to Rube Goldberg.

I have to wonder if these are the same guys, or if the Honda ad people were inspired by that film.

21. I think I remember that one.
Did it start off with a bag of garbage slowly rotating on a rope, and end with a bag of garbage slowly rotating on a rope?

Honda's got some good commercials. I like the Honda Odyssey commercial playing "slowride" by foghat with all the custom vans from the seventies. The Odyssey looks like crap, but those old vans are works of art.

23. You can find TWTW on eMule.
It's fascinating, about 30 minutes long. Reading the trivia about it on IMdb is amazing, they set the thing up in one night, and one take, and it worked flawlessly. Of course, things tend to work flawlessly when you use a lot of chemicals that pretty much explode and expand and whatnot.

Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 10:40 AM by DiverDave
I would buy it, assuming it got better gas mileage then the Odyssey.
We really need a bigger car for the growing kids.

Oh, that was a cool sequence.
