Here's a tidbit to hammer home the truth to Bush supporters and their ilk
http://www.thoughtcrimes.org/s9/index.php?/archives/733-Bushs-energy-policy-in-a-nutshell.html

Precious Leader announced that he was going do something about gasoline prices today, raising the hopes of people who are terminally stupid.

What he did was suspend environmental rules, meaning oil companies will pocket even higher profits while polluting more. He also stopped putting oil into the strategic petroleum reserve, something that will have little affect on gasoline prices, and promised to look into price gouging (try not to laugh).

Let's take a close look at what Bush's energy policy has meant to America over the last five years.

(All prices adjusted to current dollars).

Gasoline price the day Bill Clinton left office - $1.54/gallon
Gasoline price after five years of oil men Bush & Cheney - $2.89 (and climbing)
Increase in gasoline price - +87.7%

Price of a barrel of crude 2001 - $30.42
Price of a barrel of crude 2006 - $73.50
Increase in price of a barrel of crude - +141.6%

Exxon share price 2001 - $40.31
Exxon share price now - $64.41
Increase in share price - 59.8%

Exxon profits in 2000 - $18.8 billion
Exxon profits in 2005 - $36.1 billion
Increase in profits - 94.7%

Amount of campaign contributions to Republicans (2000-2006) - $73.1 million
Amount of campaign contributions to Democrats (2000-2006) - $18.1 million
Difference in funds donated between Democrats and Republicans - 303.3% more to Republicans

Average annual wage in 2000 - $35,709
Average annual wage in 2004 - $35,648 (last year data is available)
Decrease in annual wage - $61

Lee Raymond's (Exxon CEO) salary last year - $48.9 million
Raymond's salary per MINUTE - $391.83
Average American's per DAY - $137.11
Value of Raymond's retirement package - $350 million

3. The Repug believers will blame this all on 9/11...
that is the basis for all things evil it seems. They won't face facts, they'll just distort them to convince themselves that they're right.

9. Good information, but a bit confusing

I was expecting to see more information on the impact of environmental regulations on oil companies.

But, from your data, I am seeing that no environmental regulations forced on the companies by Clinton and liberal Democrats seemed to really raise prices the way Bush simply being in office has...

So, I guess what this does show is that environmental regulations really have nothing to do with high prices

12. I was trying to drive home a couple of points
1) Republicans have been bought and paid for by oil companies.
2) Oil companies are making money hand over fist.
3) Prices have spiraled up under Bush after years of stability under Clinton.
4) Oil company executives make more in a minute than the average American makes in a day.

More points could be made, but I was trying to kepp it simple.

17. Restricting supply is a tested, tried and
true tactic of monopoly capitalists. Besides capitalizing directly on the Iraq War by having a vested interest these fascist rat-bastards are doing it on a macro-level.

I hate to say it, but they also undermine alternatives to fossile fuels through corporate chicanery.

Hopefully this is the last hurrah for these predators.
