6. What about sex offenders? Here in michigan sex offenders have to
ask the state police for permission if they want higher education. Plus their picture and name are put up on bulletin boards if the police approve.

9. Sex Crimes Vary Too, Just Like Drug Convictions
What about an 18-year old and a 15 year old, who have consentual sex? That is a felony in some states.
Then are are the serial rapists & pedophiles. Tough question. Not sure what I think about that.

7. If they're denied opportunities
Shouldn't that be a part of their sentence?

I thought that jail time or damage penalties were the only punishments to be given out in a court of law.

And that should include the right to vote, too. If that's what was in your sentence, fine. Otherwise, that right should not be taken away.

10. welcome to the USAR where a man isn't judged on his merits but on his
past transgressions. Whats next putting people in prison because of crimes their father or grandfathers committed? Progressive thinking or is that the freeper coming out in some? Not the op but the one who the op is replying to.

13. OK, I put "not sure" because I think it depends...
What kinds of scholarships are we talking about?

If we are talking about scholarships issued by the university or college in question, then I think they should not discriminate against people who have paid their debt to society. If the university has already admitted our theoretical felon, it would be silly, IMO, to turn around and say, "but we don't give financial aid to felons." If s/he was good enough to admit, why not given him/her a scholarship too (provided of course, s/he meets other criteria).

However, I think organizations should be able to pick and choose who they give their money to. I would not tell the Ford Motor Company, Omaha Chamber of Commerce or the Freewill 9th Baptist Church that they can't use their own judgement in selecting whose education to fund.

15. When people have served their time, they should have equal rights.
That's the whole basis of our system.
