Nobel Prize Winners letter to *. The most important letter I have seen.
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 06:32 PM by Botany
Sorry to repost this but I think this is too important not to bring up again.

(This link came from a thread i read about scientists worried about * using a nuke.)

Many years ago scientists from the US and refugees from Hitler's Europe urged Einstein to send
a letter to F.D.R. urging him to be aware of Germany's program that was geared to the construction
of a nuclear bomb. A group of some the greatest minds in physics, medicine, and science have now
written a letter to President Bush trying to make him aware of the "nuclear genie" he would be unleashing
if he attacks Iran with a nuclear weapon. This letter is history and if * uses a nuke in Iran we all could
be history.

Give it some pub please .... their words must be heard. Not that they would affect "W" but they would
affect those who read or hear them. E mail it to friends. Send it to congresspersons. LTTEs.

This madness must be stopped.

I'd like to survive this time, too.

7. Armageddon a little nervous about this.
I think this piece of historical context is well worth sharing at this point in time.

8. a little science fun fact
the oceans make over 50% of the words O2 .... if just a few nukes go off their
toxins and radio-nuclides make it to the seas .... game over.

10. Link?
I am horrified by the idea of any nuclear weapon being detonated anywhere -- at least 1-3 million would die if Iran were nuked.

Where do you get 'a few nukes' will end the world?

12. no link
but look up the amount of O2 the oceans produce .....

not exactly known but it wouldn't take too many nukes to kill the plankton that produce
much of the worlds O2. 30 exploded off our west coast might very well do the job.

Chernobyl a non nuclear release killed at least 90,000 ...... a thermonuclear explosion
would release far more radio nuclides and toxins.

bush is mentally ill if he thinks that if he nukes Iran that that will be the only warhead to go off.

15. The nukes of today are much much larger than even Nagasaki and Hiroshima
bombs. Astoundingly so.

16. As were the H-bombs subsequently detonated in the Pacific
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 11:40 PM by jberryhill
I'm not arguing that it is sane to use them in Iran, or anywhere else. But I don't see where anyone is proposing to use 30 of them on the US west coast either.

Plankton take up radionuclides, but you have to look at the benefits. The greatest threat to plankton right now is UV exposure - they have a harder time with that than with ionizing radiation. So, hey, with enough of a nuclear winter going, they'll be safe from the UV increase due to ozone depletion.

This guy has 30 nukes blowing up the US west coast... uh, I don't think the "holy shit" moment in that is "What about the plankton?"

14. This is an important letter
even though I agree that Bush is too much of a dipshit to read it and too much of a sociopath to give a shit. But we cannot give up on trying to bring some sanity to these insane times.
