Come Scream With Me! (LTTEs in my local paper today)
Edited on Tue Apr-25-06 07:24 PM by theHandpuppet
Yes, ladies and germs, the following preview comes with an "S" rating, ie, you will want to scream after reading these most enlightened missives which appeared in my local newspaper today. In fact, this is why I STOPPED reading my local paper, for if this in any way reflects the face of America then we are in for some scary times and you will find me under the bed with my canned tuna and milk.

Letter #1:
"Thank you, President Bush for a thriving economy. It's just a shame that the Democrats are trying to destroy it."

Yes, it must be the way those Democrats are running up the national debt to the tune of 8,360,424,916,520.77, huh? It's hell owning every branch of the federal govt, isn't it, and still finding the Dems with their hands on the steering wheel.

Letter #2:
"You will not get the truth concerning Iraq from television or newspapers. Listen to Talk Radio and you will be provided with the truth."

Well, the writer does have a point, but I get the feeling they're not talking about Air America.

Letter#3:
"In response to the Kearneysville caller commenting about the president: I, for one, would be proud to stand up for one of the boldest and bravest presidents this country has ever seen. He's kept our family safe, stood for strong values and turned our country around."

Yes, he's turned the country around all right. Now go take your meds and dream about Jeff Gannon.

Letter #4
"In response to the Kearneysville caller commenting about the president: Well, he can join the Dixie Chicks. You see where they are talking against the president. Anyhow, on the serious side, the president can't speak as well as Bill Clinton, but the thing about that he is 1,000 times a better president than Bill Clinton was... "

On the serious side, when's the last time you got laid?

There were more letters along this same vein, but I have my limits lest I be felled by a lethal case of acid reflux.

Soooooo..... come scream with me!

AAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

:crazy:

6. That's a good idea
Approach you editor with the idea that posting opposing viewpoints will create interest-and perhaps some local controversy-which will increase circulation.

5. What state is this?
Is it possibly Missouri? Al Franken was in St. Louis today and did a long segment about stem cell research with a local activist. Seems the MO legislature is trying to stop stem cell research. Funny, because the cells they would be using come from fertilization clinics, and if not used for research, are destroyed. They are only a few cells, and don't have a heart, head, or hands-yet according to the activist, the Missourians who want this legislation seem to be under the impression that freeze dried babies, complete with arms, legs, and dimples, are just hanging around waiting to be thawed out so they can start crying.

The writers to your paper would fit in nicely with that crowd, I think.

Eastern Panhandle, where DC suburbanites are taking over for the cheap price of housing.

There were also letters denouncing Senator Byrd, another the "gay agenda", among others, but after a while you just can't read anymore without getting the distinct feeling you don't recognize your country anymore.

10. I strongly suspect that many of these LTTEs are written by paid RW shills.
The Rethugs mastered the art of fabricating false realities long ago using just this method.

For example, I was reading Baghdad Burning today -- I just got the first book -- and River tells how back in 2003 some GOP Team Leader ex-military guy set up a blog with the same address as hers, only one extra letter (riverSbend instead of riverbend), and proceeded to pretend he was her, blogging how great Iraq was doing and how happy "she" was that the US had invaded!! People thought she'd lost her mind because it was the exact opposite of what she'd previously blogged.

These cretins stop at nothing -- NOTHING -- to give the false impression that they have strong support when they in fact have virtually NONE. One GOPher might submit 100 LTTEs under various names and locations...They have no care for the truth. It's all for their God Bush**.

So don't scream. Write your own letter asking how much they got paid to write what they did!

Last week the local high school held its annual science club debate. I screamed for a month when I heard the topic.

http://www.sedaliademocrat.com/News/287745803139817.htm

<snip>

Two preachers used Bible verses to support their points during the third-annual science club debate Friday about salvation at Smith-Cotton High School.

About 130 people attended the discussion about two theories of salvation, Calvinism and Arminianism. The high school science club sponsored the debate.

<snip>

<Snip>
Mr. Meister said he wasn't surprised that a science club was sponsoring a debate about theology. The skills the debaters were using - rational thought and logic - are ones that are compatible with science, Mr. Meister said.

16. I appreciate your reaction though..
I take some comfort in the fact that there wasn't a large turnout. Last years science club debate was 'evolution versus creationism' and they packed the auditorium.

Several years ago there was some sort of pay dispute and a lot of teachers either took early retirement or left for other districts. One of the admin was deeply religious, and replaced nine of the teaching positions with adjunct(?) teachers who all had some sort of ties to fundamentalism. It took a few years for things to get really bad here, but now it's unbelieveable. Science is about creationism and genetic superiority, and history is a class on anti-liberalism.

We keep fighting and the small turnout for this last 'debate' gives me hope. Maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

12. On that "Dixie Chick" comment
They now have a new unappologetic CD produced by hitmaker Rick Rubin that hit #5 on the country chart upon release.

This writer must assume that since she doesn't like them that she brought them to their collective knees...like Bill O'Reilly thinks he destroyed France.
