Robert Scheer of CBS admits
that the Drumheller story is the one they didn't run before the election. The dirty bastid said he agreed not to write about it.

25. How MANY stories held back for Bush's election does THIS one make now?
NYT held back the NSA spying and wouldn't publish their proof that Bush was wired for the debates.

And DOZENS of DC reporters KNEW that Rove and Libby leaked for the WH when they outed Plame, but NONE of them would admit it, and ALL of them allowed Rove and his operatives all the airtime they wanted to TRASH and DEFAME Joe Wilson as a LIAR for TWO GAWDDAM YEARS.

5. Are you blaming Robert Scheer or CBS?
I blame CBS, Robert Scheer did the right thing, CBS is who held it until after the election, not that it would have mattered.

The Bush Lemmings would have still voted for him and the Diebold machine wouldn't have gone away because of it.

6. Both. He should have never agreed to
such a deal, CBS should never have asked for such a deal. If more reporters/jounalists would have stood on principles the outcome may have been very different.
If they had, CBS could never have succeeded in asking them to sign an agreement like that. That was a horrible lapse of morals that cost many young people their lives.

14. It doesn't sound like the reporters realized it would mean
witholding the news until after the election. According to Scheer, they agreed not to write about the story until after the 60 Minutes story aired--never dreaming the story wouldn't air until now.

Once CBS decided not to go with the 60 Minutes segment, they should have released their reporters from their agreements.

53. Scheer and CBS share equal blame
The fact CBS and Scheer held the story is not surprising. The
mainstream media are nothing more than propagandists for the
Bush administration and while thousands of people suspected it
was deceit and lies Bush & Co. used in the run-up to the
Iraq war, the culpability of the media in taking this country
to war is now evident for all to see. Blood on their hands?
You bet they have blood on their hands. The entire pit of
vipers from the White House all the way down to the editorial
boards, TV/radio bellowers and corporate CEO's should be in
the dock for war crimes. We are indeed controlled by a Fascist
regime aided by a frightened, cowardly media. With fraud
rampant in the election process, it is going to take a
revolution to destroy the rot that afflicts the nation.

7. I don't understand how they can justify holding any story because it
would have influenced the 'election'. THAT WAS THEIR JOB. Provide information to the public to allow them to make an informed choice about who would be in the highest job in this nation.

They just wanted to maintain the status quo. The media are owned by big business and the only entities or people who are benefiting in this country right now are the very rich and big business.

Same as ABC and NBC, you can't trust any of them anymore than you can trust FOX! I'd watched CBS news since I was a kid in the 60s, but I don't watch after the Dan Rather thing. When Dan left CBS I did too.

... <http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=20711>
before Huffinton Post even existed.

He has a very long history of writing and reveling info the RW don't want you to know. I don't know much about it, but people always refer to the "Rampart Raid."

Here's a link to one of my favorites from MAY 23, 2001: <http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=11252>

Robert Scheer
CREATORS SYNDICATE
05.23.01

Bush's Faustian deal with the Taliban

Enslave your girls and women, harbor anti-U.S. terrorists, destroy every vestige of civilization in your homeland, and the Bush administration will embrace you. All that matters is that you line up as an ally in the drug war, the only international cause that this nation still takes seriously.

That's the message sent with the recent gift of $43 million to Afghanistan, to be distributed by the an arm of the United Nations. The Taliban, who rule Afghanistan with an iron fist and will almost certainly be able to control the distribution of the aid to their political advantage, are the most virulent anti-American violators of human rights in the world today. The gift, announced last Thursday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, in addition to other recent aid, makes the U.S. a major backdoor sponsor of the Taliban and rewards that "rogue regime" for declaring that opium growing is against the will of God. So, too, by the Taliban's estimation, are most human activities, but it's the ban on drugs that catches this administration's attention.

Never mind that Osama bin Laden still operates the leading anti-American terror operation from his base in Afghanistan, from which, among other crimes, he launched two bloody attacks on American embassies in Africa in 1998.

Sadly, the Bush administration is cozying up to the Taliban regime at a time when the United Nations, at U.S. insistence, imposes sanctions on Afghanistan because the Kabul government will not turn over Bin Laden.

13. Misleading OP - Sheer simply got advance notice of a 60 Minutes report...
The advance notice required the recipient to not publish the contents until after the report aired. Then CBS kept delaying the report.

Robert Scheer does NOT work for CBS.

Now, if I were a cynical person, I'd say that CBS used this as a tactic to keep the information off the news...oh, wait, I AM cynical.

After the RW took them on over AWOL they "canned everything." But, they are culpable for "FEDERAL ELECTION FRAUD" for "Election Tampering" along with EVERY MEDIA OUTLET that "spiked, sat on, diffused or ignored EVERYTHING that would have given KERRY the Win in 04!

Disgusting...Makes me so sick but then I've been sick since "Selection 2000." Would think by now I would have learned to deal with my sense of outrage...

How many people are really paying attention. They have been brainwashed by the Republicans that the Republicans are taking care of them, giving them tax cuts, keeping them safe from the terrorists. The Republicans are still in control and still powerful. Even when people go vote in November, they will still vote for the same Republicans. And those voting machines will ensure that the same Republicans are kept in office. I too am very cynical.

They are CRIMINALLY COMPLICIT with the take-over by the NeoCon Junta since long before December 2000. They have aided and abetted the NeoCon Junta since that time.

They are guilty, and they have the same blood on their hands as the NeoCon Junta.

43. liars, all of them
CBS, FOX, CNN, MSNBC, and all the others. Purposefully withholding valid information is lying by omission. Deceiving the american people to further corporate power is whats happening here and it's wrong on so many levels. Corporations and the rich love GWBushit and his mis-administration because of the profits they reap from the war.
Take away the power of corporations. Tax the SOB's till they hurt bad. Time for true patriotic companies to pay their way. 10 billion PROFIT for exxon in one quarter? Lying to keep the dimsun in office is criminal and using profit as an excuse is destroying what once was a great country.
In other words putting corporate profits ahead of truth, ahead of lives, is destroying our country.
Thanks mr scheer for lying for your corporate dimwads. Hope you sleep badly. Hope every life given for this insane war resonates in your brain and allows you no sleep. And as to your bosses, well, what can be said. slugs.
