Why can't someone explain that the Republicans who always decry TAXES on gasoline are not being honest with the public when they say the taxes benefit only "government." Yes, that is true, but it benefits the public when the taxes go to states and municpalities and when it goes to the Federal government don't they realize that the taxes go to fund the military machine that fights the wars abroad so that the oil companies can continue to get the oil and make the huge profits? It's not like gasoline taxes go into the pockets of a bunch of poor and elderly standing in welfare lines but that is the picture that Republicans always want the public to see when it comes to taxes. It's the strawman that set up to knock down to make people believe that taxes are bad...when they really mean that taxes on THEIR (conservatives) wealth are bad.

4. My main problem with the oil issue is that Dem spokespeopls just |
|
simply respond to the strawmen the Republicans throw up instead of discussing issues that inform the public of more than just the surface issues the Republicans want to talk about. Like the needs of taxes and why windfall taxes will help and that only the arrogance, not the economics, of the oil barrons keeps refineries operating at less than capacity and even WITH the huge tax breaks the oil companies are now getting they are screwing us from every end. When the hell are we going to get some Dems who can educate the public instead of endroctinate?

I want someone to ask him if he believes in the concept of "public property". I don't think he does.

6. You have to give the Republicans this |
|
they all memorize the talking points and then just repeat. Hannity and Boortz (and I'm sure all the others) were in total lockstep. And then Pombo on CSPAN did his mynah bird act. They don't even change the syntax. They can't. Cause it's all memorization and recitation. No thinking. I hope Tony Snow is quick study at learning his lines. Not sure he'll get to use a tele-prompter.
