My wish has come true!!! It's Tony Snow!!!!
Halle-freakin-luah.

The over/under of this toady hitting meltdown is about ten days.

Free Republic.

Filling in for Limbaugh.

Totally going off the deep end when someone questioned him on his radio show.

Dumber than the proverbial box of rocks.

Helen vs. Tony.

The Fox spin when Tony sticks his toes down his throat.

If this is the work of Josh Bolten I say - I WANT MORE!!!!

<doing the glad dance while Tony helps to bring George into the 20's - poll numbers, that is).

3. I'm overjoyed as well
It will be an interesting exercise to see how long he can keep his hubris laden bullshit under wraps. My guess is that for a month or so, he'll play it straight, then, in the gaggle that is NOT recorded, in the back room, he'll start getting shitty and snippy off the record, and eventually, it will spill out in front of the shabby blue curtain!

Having a FOX pimp shill for * will be the tipping point.

If you;'ve ever listened to Snow on the radio, you'll know when the meltdown comes. He ABSOLUTELY can not take criticism, and what he'll do when confronted with the Bush lies is going to be a thing of beauty to watch.

8. Mr. & Mrs. Middle America won't give a rat's ass.
It will make for some great posts on DU and Freep City, but the average working class family that glues themselves to Fox, CNN, and MSNBC will just see another guy who hasn't been tossed around yet.

McClellan's exit and the fake Rove "change of responsibilities" was all smoke & mirrors. I agree with a line that's been used more than once lately: The failure in Bush's administration isn't PEOPLE, it's POLICIES.

Yeah, I want to watch a Helen Thomas - Tony Snow dust-up as much as the next guy, but all the White House has done here is swap out a liar who thought he was telling the truth for a liar who will KNOW that he is lying.

20. Oh yeah, absolutely...but that's what it will take.
He'll simply have to be himself and lose sight of the fact that the cameras are rolling.

The freeps love to call David Gregory a showboat...for that matter, so did Scott McClellan, which led to one of their more interesting on-air confrontations. But I'm wondering what will happen when David declares himself ready to go after a piece of Tony's ass. My guess is that it won't be pretty.

care even less who's his replacement.

The fact that Snow has been quoted objecting to Bush allows the republicans make the argument that Bushco is not in a bubble.

17. But most people do not vote, so screw them
It's a sad truth; they don't. And the ones who pay attention put pressure on the media. If/when Snow melts down, it will be closer to 08...when people start paying attention. "Say Martha, I remember that guy...he was on Faux! Man, his vein on his forehead looks 'bout ta POP!"

in the off camera morning gaggles, and suddenly, Snow will melt away due to pre-existing health concerns. And they won't be able to keep the reasons secret, not with all the DC blogging going on...

27. Valid points.
I think that when we look at those who do vote, and include a sub-group of people who usually don't but may be more inclined to because of a couple pressing issues, that Snow's taking this position is a good thing for democrats and associated progressives.

I always say that in politics, there are three groups: those who always vote for you; those who always vote against you; and the undecided. From the republican standpoint, Snow isn't going to reel in those who oppose them. Right now, for the first time since 9-11, that group may be viewed as including a growing number of journalists from the corporate media. The administration is attacking journalists in a variety of cases (several of which are detailed in my essay "Leaks in Perception" yesterday.) I would add to that the possibility that some in the press corps are not huge fans of Fox News' Bush cheerleaders.

It is more likely than not that some reporters on the White House beat will include references to some of Snow's comments on Bush in their questions. It would be similar to asking Scott about his past comments on Rove and Libby having no role in the Plame scandal. While journalists are often something of a brotherhood not unlike attorneys (which many are), they will get into debating duels.

That brings us to the "undecided," who we may think of as the jurors, so to speak. As issues heat up on a range of things, from the war to the Plame case to the fall elections, more people will be exposed to some degree to these duels.

Add to that the fact that many republicans in congress, looking to return to the House or Senate, are going to have to distance themselves from Bush on those issues. These are among those who we would generally view as the "always in Bush's camp" people. I am not suggesting that they will do anything based on principle -- they only want to be re-elected.

While Snow's taking this job will not be a huge factor in democratic victories, it seems unlikely to help Bush either with the republicans in the short run, or with the undecided folks. In that sense, it is indeed significant.

30. I can see that referencing to Snow's comments you mention happening
...especially when he is on the ropes, trying to justify the Bushit agenda with the questions raining down thick and fast.

"But Tony, even YOU said, on your (tv/radio) show, AND I QUOTE...(fill in blah blah blah)...so even YOU took issue with this matter, and that was (fill in number of months/years) ago!!!"

It'll make for some swell soundbites!

7. Chimp cut Snow off at the KNEES! I DECIDE, YOU EXPLAIN my decides!
It has been reported that Snow would only take the job if HE were included in the decision making process/meetings. Well, that didn't happen.

Snow has got to be nuts taking this job on the Titanic.

BTW, Chimp looks like he has aged TEN years in the last 30 days.

Snow had a sickly look in his eyes, eyes tell all about the health of a person.

Here we go, loop-ty loop!

I surmise that they wanted Scotty out NO matter what, then had to find a replacement on the fly. I think that, as usual, this Administration did not think things through. I wouldn't be surprised if he's *'s third or forth choice. Who wants to volunteer for service on the figurative Titanic?

11. I think it is
a curious choice on the administration's part, and on Snow's part as well. I do not view him as being as quick on his feet as one might want for the position of press secretary. I do not say that in terms of raw intelligence, because he is surely at least as smart as Ari or Scott. But he seems more like a cross-country runner being entered into the much shorter sprints in a track & field competition.

Although the president has fought attempts by his father and the elders from the Bush1 group to "rescue" his presidency, I have to wonder if there may be a connection. I note that Will Pitt's new essay mentions James Baker III stepping in. I had long thought that VP Cheney would have been forced to resign by now, and that Baker would be the most likely replacement. Obviously, I was not right on that, and so people should take what I say with a giant grain of salt .... but I wonder if Snow responded more to the elder Bush and Baker, than to a president he has clearly recognized as not being up to the job.

34. It seems as if there is a connection between Snow and Bolten
Listening to the aptly-named Fred "Beetle" Barnes on what used to be The Tony Snow Show today, it was brought up that Bolten and Snow go way back, and that this may have been a deciding factor in Snow taking the job. It was also noted by a previous poster on this thread that Snow had two conditions that needed to be met in prder for him to take this position, those being a) access to the President and b) input into the Bush domestic agenda. Listening to Barnes tip-toe around this it seems as if a) was granted, but b) was not, although Snow will get "a seat at the table."

I look forward to Tony's response, sometime down the road, when he realizes he has been given neither.
