But wouldn't have taken anyone's talking points then as it would be a true concern. And if one were to espouse true conservative positions, that is exactly where the tax should be coming from, the states. Wouldn't "New York's highway needs be different from Wyoming's highway needs." That is the answer if someone brings this to me, "So you want the states out of funding highways? You want the 'massive' federal government to have to do it?" And "why should I have to foot more of the bill for highways and streets in states and towns I am never going to drive in?"

18. Our state gas tax was raised twice!

By former Repug governor John Engler, who went around the state for years claiming "I lowered 22 taxes, I lowered 23 taxes, I lowered 24 taxes." He also raised numerous taxes including Real Estate transfer tax (800% increase), sales tax (50% increase), gas tax (twice), cigarette tax (twice), and the taxes he lowered were corporate giveaways. He claimed that lowering corporate taxes would create jobs which of course it didn't, now he's the head of a pro-manufacturers think tank and Michigan's economy is in the dumper with manufacturers taking their tax giveaways and leaving the state in droves. He ran up a $1 billion deficit, then when it became clear that a Dem had won the election, hurried through (with the help of a Repug Legislature) a balanced budget amendment to sabotage her administration. He knew she would end up spending the first 2 years trying to find $1 billion. Now all the Repugs are complaining she hasn't accomplished anything, and are presenting a billionaire pro-business candidate named Devos (Amway heir). Their pitch is: he has business experience, so he'll create jobs. Repugs keep falling for the same line. Arrrggghhh!
