Milk (or a vegan alternative, for that matter) will stay safe for a few hours in a thermos.

That lines up with the true inflation rate when you factor in increases in the consumer costs of food, housing, energy, etc. It may actually be worse than that.

The CPI vastly understates the increase in the true cost of living for middle-income people.

reduced funding for lunches than for the price of milk going up. may not even be a national issue but a state or even local school board one. some school boards are feeling the pinch, cannot raise taxes and are cutting costs where ever they can

Darigold is the Distributor and their price increases have been enormous also the local freight company has raised freight costs from eight cents per pound to fifteen cent per pound. Half pint milks come in crates of fifty and weigh thirty eight pounds. 38 lbs @ $.15 equals $5.70 or $.11 per unit. Darigold sells the product for $.19 per unit. Deliverd to the wholesaler the cost is $.30 per unit. The wholesaler works on a 24% profit margin.

6. Everything goes up when gas prices go up

But even when the gas prices drop back a little, the cost of everything else seems to remain stable at the higher cost. I think personally that when you started having two income families, they decided they wanted the same bite out of the income of two earners as one, so they substantially raised the prices on everything so that you still spent the same amount, and there was no extra household income. Then wages stagnated, so that your costs were increasing while wages remained the same, and you end up in the mess that used to be a healthy middle class that no longer exists.
