Poll question: Tony Snow as Press Secretary: Good move or bad move for Bushists?
Never mind that everything the Bushists do is bad for the country, the world and humanity. Is Tony Snow's hiring going to have a positive or negative effect on Bush's numbers?

You can vote now and then read my take on it, if you don't want to be unduly influenced. ;)

My take: They've just appointed a prima donna who is going to get them in trouble, not just because of his past dissing of the admin, but also because he won't want to get his self-image dirty defending filth. I think it's a mistake. I'm glad they made it.

1. Scott was tailor-made for this administration
Un-ruffleable. Tony has never faced tough questions, and I'm not convinced he's 100% on board with the agenda.

He won't last.

2. I also think Snow is too much a part of pundit culture to not want the
press guys to love him. McClellan clearly didn't give a rat's ass what anyone thought of him. Snow does.

5. Who cares is he is "on board"...?
That doesnt matter...It's a job...

Sometimes my boss asks me to do something that I think should be done differently...you just do it...its a job...you dont have to agree with it.

6. But will a "star" just do his job?
Or will the star be thinking about his own career and skin?

11. He's a talk show host and professional gasbag.
He's not Marvin Kalb or Ron Nessin. He's a professional bloviator.

15. Update and amplification

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2006/04/25/snow2/index.html

The Washington Post is reporting that Snow has accepted the press secretary job -- contingent on getting a clean bill of health from a CAT scan taken last week -- but only after getting assurances that he will be "an active participant in administration policy debates." The Post's report follows on a similar report from the National Journal's Hotline, which said that Snow was offered the job some time ago but has been negotiating with Josh Bolten over the powers he will wield. Apparently unwilling to be the guy who passes along whatever he's been told, Snow asked for "guaranteed access to the president's ear and to an unusually large degree of latitude to reconfigure the press operation," the Hotline said.

We don't know what that means, exactly, except that Helen Thomas and David Gregory might want to keep a close eye on their seats in the White House press briefing room.

4. They think the ratings mean that America in general has accepted Fox News
as a legitimate source of information.

They are in for a rude awakening.

Worse yet, they are putting him on the stand in front of a horde of people who care not for Fox News in the least, with the exception of the hardcore faithful in the press corps.

He's going to be embarrassed.

7. I have a feeling that he's going to "Helen Thomas" the entire press corps.
No one is going to be allowed to ask a question that wasn't previously reviewed, and no one will be called on that is potentially unfriendly.

10. I think if they'd done their homework on Snow -
a fast browse of the Internet might have sufficed - they never would have offered him the job. Considering the quotes that have surfaced already, this is going to be fun to watch.

12. Good and bad, so I put no effect
I think Tony will be a good press secretary. It's the job he has been training for his whole life after all. The minus is that people may finally put 2 & 2 together that Faux News is a subsidiary of Bushco.

13. I doubt it will change public opinion that Bush is incompetent and
corrupt.
The good thing about it is that it will forever link Tony Snow to the Bush legacy of lies and failure. It's almost like Tony just had "Liar & Idiot" tattooed on his forehead. This may just kill his career to the point where he's considered a Coultergeist.

16. weird ..but i just don't know!!..first i believe
most americans never watch the press conferences ..i ask all my friends and i know i am only one in my family that watch!
i think most people like us who stay on top of whats going on..we watch..but the majority of americans..they could care less..unless it is something that slaps them in the face..
even most of the Dems where i live never watch ...so will it make a difference??

i don't think so..

but for those of us who pay attention..i think he will make us more resolute..he will piss us off..i believe..

hell 3 yrs ago i put faux on child block so i would never have to watch those assholes...so now blivit bringing a faux water boy into the white house..well that only makes me madder..because now i will be compelled to watch one of those faux fuckers!

just more propaganda for me to get pissed about!!
