Before you condescend to voters in Mississippi, you'd better look...
Edited on Wed Apr-26-06 12:15 PM by Maddy McCall
at the most recent state polling results. Mississippi DISAPPROVES of Bush. Mmmkay?

If you're going to pick on a state's residents who have "drunk the cool aide (sic)" then you need to be informed on the topic, so that you don't make a fool of yourself.

Latest state polls assigning Bush popularity numbers demonstrate that Oklahoma, Utah, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Idaho still support Bush in most recent polls. Mississippi ain't in that list.

Bush has had negative numbers in Mississippi for quite a while. And he didn't win "overwhelmingly" in 2004 in Mississippi, either.

If you're going to start considering states to slyly ridicule and condescend, I suggest you make it an all-state effort. Look at election 2004 numbers. Our nation was split then, so much so that pundits continue to refer to the US as a purple nation.

1. What she said
Liberal Maddy and Liberal Hog will hunt you down and kick your ass if ya go around looking down at us. Okay, maybe not. But I'm sure Maddy will agree there are many in our state which continue to give us the bad image and the roadside trash is an atrocious embarrassment.

However, DU is chock full of wacky liberal Mississippians. Speaking of that, anybody heard from Rowdyboy lately?

We'd be a formidable duo. We could whop offenders with a big catfish or crown them with an oyster shell.

have seen the damage that WILL happen when a shortsighted incompetent is in the office.

In 2004, Kerry campaigned around the gulf coast and emphasized the urgent need of putting 14 BILLION dollars immediately into strengthening the coastlines.

Too bad the media didn't think that issue was important enough to warrant further discussion.

10. Kerry came really close to carrying Mississippi.
If elections were held today, he'd win. I have no doubt.

12. It would be heartbreaking for the GOP voters there, but imagine an ad that
shows Kerry speaking about the urgent needs of the coastline in June 2004. Heartbreaking - but who can afford to back away from reality any longer?

3. I just want the Democrats to contest Mississippi
Odds are that they will still lose the state, but I'd rather they lose the state having given it their best effort and forcing the Republicans to campaign down there. Make them earn it, rather than hand it to them on a silver platter.

13. I'm usually fond of your posts....
I've told you so in the past. However, I have a problem with people "preachin' down" to Mississippians. I'll be the first to admit...there are some stupid people here. Well, lots of stupid people here.

But when you treat us like some pity case that deserves the condescending attention of people who are better or smarter than us, you discount the whole, huge hierarchy of local organizations of Democrats in this state who are working their asses off--even when it's not election season--to make our state a better place to live.

If you truly want to help Mississippians, don't armchair strategize about us as if we have no voice and you know what's best for us. Contact our state leader (Wayne Dowdy, a good friend of mine AND of Howard Dean's--can give you his phone number if you like) and offer to assist in a real way. Make donations, offer to address envelopes in our next statewide blitz. Ask him questions that he can answer, and you'll see that we have BRILLIANT and powerful Democrats in this state.

Just don't sit there and posture, as if you are somehow brighter and wiser than us. You're not. You just happen to live in a different state. You'd be amazed at the similarities you share with Democrats in this state.

25. That's what I am trying to push.
I don't expect every red state to turn blue in the next election. It's about having a candidate visit every state at least once, to understand their issues. Once in office, they can address the problems, and continue to build a Democratic base.

If they want to campaign in a "swing" state 14 times after that, I don't care.

Democrats need to think both in the short-term, and the long-term. If they had thought about that after the "civil rights movement", we might not have Bush in office today.

18. That's right.
When people look at a state only by its election results, they fail to see the diversity in that state....

We have strong Democratic organizations in Mississippi. I'll be damned if their participants will be viewed as "less Democratic" than those elsewhere.

8. I bow to the Mississippi Queen!
Mississippi Queen, If you know what I mean
Mississippi Queen, She taught me everything
Way down around Vicksburg, Around Louisiana way
Lived a cajun lady, Aboard the Mississippi Queen
You know she was a dancer
She moved better on wine

While the rest of them dudes were'a gettin' their kicks,
Boy I beg your pardon, I was getting mine

Mississippi Queen, If you know what I mean
Mississippi Queen, She taught me everything
This lady she asked me, If I would be her man
You know that I told her, I'd do what I can
To keep her looking pretty
Buy her dresses that shine

While the rest of them dudes were making their bread
Boy I beg your pardon, I was losing mine

17. I agree. And a CALL-OUT to ALL STATE-BASHERS:
Why do you hate America?

And -

If you can't say anything nice about your fellow citizens in the state next door, then don't say anything at all. It's one thing to critcize state laws and legislative actions, it's another thing altogether to repeatedly slam Texans for living in Texas, Missourians for living in Missouri, So. Dakotans for living in So. Dakota, etc. You get my drift? Some people live where they were born. Some people live where they chose to move to. NONE of it is your business.

Keep your eyes on the feckin' road, shut up, and drive.

24. I'm sure Katrina plays a part
in GWB's unpopularity there. Also IIRC Mississippi is the poorest state with need for help with education. The GOP is no friend to people in states like this. That is why I am glad Howard Dean and the DNC have embraced the 50 state strategy. They did well in neighboring Alabama, and I believe MS is on the to-do list.
