"Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election" with Mark Crispin Miller.

Mark Crispin Miller is the author of three books dealing with the Bush/Cheney administration and the dangerous conservative movement that is driving it. In his most recent, "Fooled Again: How the Right Stole the 2004 Election and Why They'll Steal the Next One Too", he argues it wasn't moral values that swung the election - it was theft. In this presentation on April 9, 2006 at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, he spoke about the 2004 stolen presidential election and the take-over of the Republican Party by religious fundamentalists.

12. 04 fraud unprecendented in three ways

1) scale, 2) technical sophistication, completely undetectable. No paper involved. Just lights in a box. Most significant of all was it was unprecedented in its motivation. Not a just matter of a political party acting to maintain or seize power or get more of the spoils.

The theft driven by a fierce hatred of democracy itself. Many of these people sincerely believe their political adversaries are evil and demonic.

This is not a secret. They see the other side as so evil and are capable of doing anything to win, so we must use their methods to prevent doing this to us. Ends justify the means. Not just corporate profits or oil. We're missing the significance of a movement with a strong apocalyptic streak. Irrational manifestations and beliefs.

Policy is suicidal. Rational military officers know this.

Environment not solely motivated by big lumber, coal etc. It's an apocalyptic movement that thinks of the end as not a bad thing, but a desired thing.

15. We're all skating on thin ice economically

out of middle class and into something else. Leftist journalists are freelancers. If you want to say something about theft, they'd rather not sound like conspiracy theorist, they'd rather show their moderate chops.

American democracy under serious attack. Nothing to do with ideological clashes we grew up with. We thought the long twilight struggle would be capitalism vs socialism.

With all due respect, we have an excellent revolutionary heritage of its own. RWers hate post-modernism, it does nothing to harm their agenda. Rush, Hannity etc. is one vast angry projection by people who hate things inside themselves. Lots of homophobia because they're a bunch of closet cases. Pathology of paranoia.

They believe christians are most persecuted group in America. DeLay said this. Not pretense. This thought always has threatened democracy. Roman republic collapsed by wars. When press if free, independent and diverse so people can make decisions about self-gov't.

I have faith in judgement of American people IF they know what's happening. This is not about being on the left or a Democrat or being in a blue state, not partisan. This is about realizing and salvaging values of Enlightenment.
