'A blend of journalism and acupuncture' - the 85-year-old who terrifies presidents

Correspondent Helen Thomas has interrogated every US leader since Kennedy

Julian Borger in Washington
Friday April 28, 2006
The Guardian

It is not entirely true that the White House press corps gave George Bush an easy ride on the road to war in Iraq. There was one significant exception. Almost every day the administration had to face the furious questioning of an octogenarian woman from Detroit who at times seemed to be the sole sceptical voice in the building.

At the age of 85, Helen Thomas is a little frail and her voice does not carry as well as it once did, but she cannot be easily overlooked. She has been reporting on the White House longer than most of her fellow journalists have been alive.

4. Yet another kick for the Queen of the WH Press Corps!
:kick:

Where is the MSM in this country when it comes to singing her praises?

Oh, right, she puts them to shame, and the shamed aren't grateful.

14. She did her job and for that, she was sent to the back of the room.
How sad that just doing your job as a journalist makes you stand out in a Democratic country. It took a lot of courage for her to do what she did.

Our so-called media is a disgrace. I really wish there would be a country-wide boycott of the entire propaganda machine until they hire some real journalists and start doing their job.

Helen will get to ask the Fox News plant, Tony Snow, some questions in two weeks or so. Freepers think Tony will be able to handle her.

The first question she should ask him is 'why is Freerepublic covering up for you? That's not a very good start for you, is it? Coverups beginning before you even get started? What did you say on the that radical, rightwing board that you don't want us to see?' And 'how can the public feel that they are getting the truth about this administration when they will only speak to Fox, which is now clearly outed as a propaganda arm of the WH itself? Don't you think this destroys their credibility with the public?'

Knowing Helen, I think the Freeps are going to be disappointed ~

16. I don't think history will ever vindicate anyone who starts a war on false
pretences. I think it diminished us as a people ... We are despised when we were once beloved.
