Will the GOP raise everybody's taxes by $100 to pay for the gas rebate?
Or will the defecit grow by $100 a head?

Or will they balance the books by slashing social programs for those in need?

Have any Republicans answered this, or did it simply not occur to our noble press corps to ask where the money is going to come from?

1. No
They'll offset it be giving the oil companies more tax breaks and cash.

9. 100$ rebate
I think we all know this is pure BS. The only real thing to do is push for alternative fuels, offer rebates for solar panels and other energy saving devices. It may take a few years, but conservation is the only legitimate way to go. If we had started when J Carter wanted us to we would be good to go by now. Oh I just remembered if we had done that bush and friends would not have made all that money.

10. That's true
But they'll just give the oil companies rebates of 100 dollars multiplied by every man, woman and child in the U.S.

4. Your $100 will be deducted from whatever refund you would get next April
just like the $300 bribe last election cycle..

This "rebate" nonsense is pure "vote buying" in its most blatant form..

How messed up are we, when 2 tanks of gas is all our vote is "worth"..?

5. No, silly, because if my TAXES go up 3 dollars, I write to my congressman
and throw out all those tax and spenders, but if my price I pay for GAS or PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE goes up hundreds or thousands of dollars, then thats OK, because thats good ol' corporatism

6. It'll cost over $200 per taxpayer in debt plus interest.

The best place to put the $100 is in a child's Savings Bond ... so it'll represent the debt and it can be paid back by that child.

8. How is this even fair?
Will people who don't even own cars get $100? Are they going to send out special Gas Cards to use at the pump? I don't even know if it's better for everyone to get $100, or only people who drive a lot...What a weird idea all around.

Also heard Bush was looking for some kind of authority to raise MPG standards...I remember in the not so distant (yet still painful) past, Bush *suing* the state of California for wanting to have higher standards than the rest of the country. His problem was that automakers would have to design cars that could be driven in California, obviously, so you had one state pretty much setting the standard for the whole country. But I never caught on to why that was a bad thing.

Well, now he thinks it's a great idea and wants to claim credit for it.
