Anybody else boycotting on May 1?

I'm joining the boycott just to see what happens.

Sort of a trial run to see what a general strike and boycott might do.

1. I would like to see what happends...

I work as a manager in the hotel industry. And the head of housekeeping is a LEGAL Mexican immigrant. And she told me that anyone on her staff that doesn't show up for work on Monday should not bother showing up on Tuesday either and to consider themelves terminated.

She's a liberal, she favors immigration, but she favors LEGAL immigration.

You walk off your job, that means you quit..

2. Heck, I'm against all immigration, legal or illegal, no matter where

people migrate from. This country is already way too crowded for me, and the land can't sustain much more.

I'm boycotting just because I want to help kick some republican corporate ass if possible.

The company I work for gives twice as much money to Dems than Republicans.

7. All corps do it...

They like to advertise that they are "moderate." But they always lean one way or the other. One reason they do this is because they always want to be in the favor of whoever is in power.

Disney for example does the same thing. 65% of their political donations go to Democrats. While 35% goes to Republicans.

Very few companies give just to one party...

10. You should also consider what Dems and Reps they are donating to.

Some might just be donating to Reps and DINOs.

12. I saw a book a few months ago in the bookstore

It listed several hundred companies in the US and tells you exactly who they donated money to and what they support. It tells you what kind of lawsuits they are involved in. All that really cool stuff that the corporations don't want you to know.

It was very, very interesting. And I was completely shocked by many. I will have to try to find it again and buy it.

Reading it will definetly change what companies you do business with.

6. I'm hoping oil companies, banks, and Wal-Mart take the biggest

hits.

They're all owned by republicans.

9. Sorry, but I predict that Walmart will be PACKED..

If other places are closed, that will mean that a lot of low wage workers will have a "day off", and here in the US, when people get a day off, they go shopping :(... and low wage workers go where they can get the most for less..and that means...Walmart..

11. Fast-food, Restaurant, Agriculture, and Hospitality

Those are the industries that stand to lose the most.

This boycott will do nothing to a corporation like Halliburton or Exxon-Mobile. And retail probably won't suffer much either (ie: Wal-Mart).

People like her worked hard to come here legally, while these criminals enter the country illegally, get forged documents illegally, and a good number of them get involved with gangs and other criminal activity once they get here.

We had a conversion van stolen by these "hard-working" people, who abandoned it in the middle of a street in a border town, and WE had to pay for towing charges.

I'm sick of people whining and crying about letting these criminals have amnesty. Easy for these people to talk; they don't live in a border state where these illegals are a constant danger.

And for the record, we're doing some big-time shopping on May 1st, because that's when we get paid. My family lives on fixed government income (retirement and disability), and we're barely able to keep food on the table toward the end of the month. No way are we going hungry to support criminals.

Mexico's poverty is Vicente Fox's problem, not the USA's. Mexico doesn't do anything to help our nation's impoverished, or even to help stem the tide of illegals. Fox wants to throw his problems off on America, Bush wants illegals here to drive wages down and destroy the middle class, and both of them are WRONG.

consider the companies that HIRE people who come across our borders illegally criminals, right? Let's see now, the companies that do the hiring are committing a crime by knowingly hiring someone who cannot legally work in this country, but the person who knowingly enters illegally and applies for the job is innocent? The companies, who are doing it for 'money', are bad. The workers, who are doing it for 'money' are good. Hmmmmm......I have to think about that some more, that reasoning is kind of confusing to me.

We have a staff of about twenty. Our Executive Director just sent us an email saying if we would like to join the rally and protest at 4pm at Union Square that he will give us a paid half-day off from work!
