Wikipedia puts Kristol's b'day as Dec 23, 1952. That means that he would have been in the 1972 draft
which was deteremined by lottery on 8/5/71. His # would have been #171 - high enough to keep
him out of the military. There were 49,000+ called in the '72 draft
(here: http://www.landscaper.net/draft70-72.htm#Lottery%20Held%20August%205,%201971).

It was interesting watching Mr War Hawk tell Colbert that "I was 19 in 1972 and went through the lottery
once...but then didn't choose to serve."
