---------------- I WILL NOT KILL -----------------
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 04:10 AM by OneBlueSky
http://www.iwillnotkill.org

I WILL NOT KILL is an FOR (Fellowship of Reconciliation) campaign led by young people who empower and educate their peers about the reality of serving in the military.

I WILL NOT KILL provides an avenue for young people to resist military recruitment and -- in the event of a draft being reinstalled -- to become conscientious objectors. Young people up to age 26 are invited to sign the I WILL NOT KILL pledge. FOR keeps a record of their signature and the date on which they signed. This record becomes a useful document in the event of a draft, when objectors must document their history of conscientious objection.

The IWNK initiative also serves as a national resource to support individuals, especially young people and current members of the armed forces, who affirm the moral right to refuse to kill other human beings or to participate in armed conflict.

2. I'm too old :(
But if somehow I ended up being drafted, there is no way in hell that I would fight in that insane man's insane wars. Just no way at all. I would rather go to Leavenworth.

3. K&R...

Not killing is only half of the equation. The other half is promoting happiness (as in "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of...").

5. Great idea...
The only thing I wonder about is whether, if Bush was forced to reinstate the draft, they would actually accept conscientious objector status. I fear that if Bush took the risk of a draft, ignoring conscientious objector rules would be nothing to him. Hell ignoring rules against torture is nothing to him, so I really have to wonder if this will actually help if that day comes.

Still gotta try I suppose.

10. the question about a "draft"
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 08:23 AM by alyce douglas
is questionable, they know if they implement a draft, it will be all over for the GOP thugs, and plus they seem to like to employ these private death squads or spies don't they? they have them out in Iran right now don't they?

6. Every soldier is a cog in a machine designed to kill.
Soldiers do not keep us safe, they put us in danger.

US soldiers in over 750 military bases around the world (in over 130 different countries).

Over 250 military and CIA interventions since WWII.

ALL of this puts us in danger, danger, danger, danger. Soldiers put us in danger.

Help Protect America -> REFUSE TO BE A SOLDIER.

"If you go personally to war, you cross the line yourself. You sacrifice ideals for survival and fury of killing. That alters you forever. That is why no on rushes to be a soldier. Think before you want to change so unalterably. The stakes are not merely one's life, but one's very humanity." Deng Ming-Dao, Thoughts on War, C 2400 BCE

Why We Fight

I do not support the troops. I support each and every person who is a troop changing out of their uniform and coming home to a good job and healthcare and all of the social support we can give them to build/re-build a happy life.

END ALL WAR NOW.

8. Maybe the times are a 'changin? Maybe it will be deleted
in a few minutes. I do feel alienated from most people in this nation who believe that some wars are 'good wars' -- the wars that lead to more wars and that lead to...

The tragedy of human history.

The US addiction is not to oil --> it is to war. In times of stress we reach for the target of our addiction.

Keep posting what you think and feel! :patriot:

24. This does not say anything about troops
or supporting them or not. It is about encouraging kids not to kill. I would hope this would discourage them of any violent behavior.

11. Is this a legit site?
I want to sign up, but the last thing I want to do is give out my personal info, have it be another RW disguised scam, get death threats in the mail every other day, and become the subject of a Bill O'Reilly "Talking Points" because I don't want to kill other people for no good reason.

It's pretty sad that I would even have to ask that, but you know how low those Republican-types will go...

I will fight injustice.
I will fight hatred.
I will fight racism.
I will work to make sure that everyone has what they need to live as God intends.
I just won't fight to kill.

16. They need to fix their front page
Draft? or No Draft? We Say No!

On May 26, 2005 Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) renewed his call for the reinstatement of the military draft. Additionally, on May 18 Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) introduced a bill to repeal the Selective Service Act. Paul's bill will eliminate the Selective Service System and give a definite assurance that a draft is truly, not coming back.

While the link below this goes to an article about Rangel's pseudo-legislation which describes what happened a little better, both miss the primary point: RANGEL NEVER WANTED THE LEGISLATION TO PASS. He put up the legislation to make a point: The people serving in our military are by-and-large from low- or middle-low-income families. At the time the bill was written none of our nation's legislators had a child serving in the armed forces. (I think there has only been one since then.)

I appreciate what this site is doing and I'll probably look into as one more thing to place in my children's CO folders... it's a shame, however, they didn't take a moment explain the context of the above information. Explaining what really happened and why would be much more effective than fearmongering.

21. If your kids are old enough to type their names, they can sign themselves.
The age group is "up to 26 years" -- if I read correctly.

23. Can you? I don't know...
Maybe you can find a "Contact Us" link on the site and ask them...

Maybe it is better to wait until your kids are old enough to know what they are signing. It is a good opportunity to talk about values together. At age 3 and 5 they are (thank goodness) a long, long way from conscription.

of our local Quaker meeting. I was raised a Quaker and am now hoping my children will want to live that life as well.
