just so the freepers heads will explode when they find out how much latino's add to our lives. I know it's going to affect me and my job.

1. A boycott is unlikely
The leaders of the demonstrations are asking that Latinos not boycott because it will send the wrong message. I'm sure some will anyway, but I doubt there will be much of an effect.

2. One of our local heavily latino staffed companies
Is willingly allowing them to all take the day off. The plants are all closing for the day so they can all protest. And this is a huge multi-national, multi-billion dollar corporation.

4. Three things.
One -- It bothers me that we didn't see this kind of response from the Hispanic community during the runup to the invasion in Iraq. Why was it more important to protest in favor of illegal immigration than get out there and stop this country from killing thousands and thousands of people?

Two -- I want us to find a way to get those who currently live in America illegally on the path to full citizenship. I want us to have more legal immigration. But I can't support the idea that we should have a black market economy based on illegal labor! It's not good for us, it's not fair for them. To the extent their boycott succeeds, it only shows how sick our American economy is, based on the labor of those who have no rights here.

Three -- I resent it when some try to make it sound as if there is only one true progressive position on this subject, and everyone who doesn't parrot that line is a right wing racist.

That is all.

8. Wow. You make 3 excellent points.
:applause:

Your 2nd point is especially good - I don't understand why there isn't more focus on revamping our immigration policies to allow for future aliens to work here legally and get paid a real wage, rather than turn a blind eye to the companies exploiting people who are fleeing exploitation to begin with.

14. Who "came down" on him or her?
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 11:39 AM by calmblueocean
I welcomed the poster, and told him to please turn down his CAPS as TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS THE FORUM EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING.

BTW: May Day has its origins in the American labor movement. Others adopted it afterward. That's not something Human Events Online is interested in highlighting, though.

12. What exactly do you want the boycott to do?
I see no purpose in it. I honestly believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that illegals work in this country at many different jobs for almost slave wages. That is why in the meat packing industry the average salary has dropped from $19 to $9 an hour in eight years.

So when they all go off the job it will identify for me the corporations who are making billions off the backs of the illegals. I wont spend my money on illegal employers. Tyson and numerous meat packing companies are on my list.

I'm for legal employers, those companies that hire LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
