3. Did you know that buried in this bill to refund us $100
is a provision for drilling in AWNR? They can keep the money as far as I am concerned.

5. So?
If we get checks, that means the provision will have already passed. Saying what you'd do with it and saying you WANT it are two entirely different things.

Sorry, but a lot of people are really poor. I don't know many people in a position to toss aside $100, no matter where it came from or how it was obtained.

9. Which is why we should fight this.
I won't take their money if means despoiling the ANWR. Even if it were $1000, it is simply too high a price to pay.

10. Fair enough
But attacking people for answering the question as it was stated is self-righteousness.

11. You are attacking me when all I was doing was asking if the
individual was aware of the provision. I don't see that as self-righteous at all.

12. That's not how I saw it at all.
The question was not "Do you want the $100?" The question was (paraphrase) "What will do you when/if you get the $100?"

Your statement rang a lot more of "How could you think of keeping the money when you know ANWR is attached to it?" than it was of educating, especially given all of the attention that's been given on the issue.

14. I'm just going to drop it here.
A flame war here won't accomplish anything. I've tossed in my $.02, you've clarified your position, let's let bygones be bygones.

24. I'm aware of the provision
And I oppose it, of course, but if they send me $100, I'll have to use it to make my house payment. If I didn't want it, I certainly wouldn't send it back to them. I'd give it to a progressive cause or candidate.

And throw those GOP bums out. $100, indeed! How about millions we could be recovering from Big Oil through a nice windfall profits tax, hm? And then take that money and invest in alternative fuels.

18. Again, I sent this letter to my local newpaper this morning ...
"We have a president who is from a family that made its fourtune in oil. We have a vice president who was a former CEO for an energy company with oil interests and a secretary of state who was a corporate lawyer for an oil company.

In the three elections cycles since George W Bush was foisted on this country, oil interests have given 78% ($26,793,906 ), 80% ($19,924,682 ) and 80% ($20,581,289) of their political contributions to republicans. So far in the 2006 election cycle they have given 86% ( $6,084,673) to republicans.

We know that within a month of taking office, the vice president had a secret meeting to develop this country's "energy" policy. To this day, the white house refuses to release details from that meeting.

Today, we have gas prices approaching crippling levels while the oil companies are raking in record profits and CEOs are cashing out with 400 million dollar benefit packages. It is safe to say that oil companies invested wisely when they invested in the republican party.

Going back to a script that worked when this president first came to office with the 300 dollar tax "rebate" (read advances) to dull the masses' awareness of crippling tax cuts to the ultra rich, republican congressman are talking about throwing the masses a $100 breadcrumb tax relief check. I would urge everyone to make the wisest possible investment they can with that $100 and give it to democratic candidates at the federal level for this fall's elections."

19. I cannot emphasize enough ...
that we try to start a movement on this thing ... If 1000 people put those 100 dollar checks toward democratic candidates it would be 100,000 ... This is found money, and found money that can be easily funneled toward the democratic cause ...

If you are part of a local democratic organization, try to get people on board with it ... Again, I sent this letter out to my paper this morning ...
