Why hasn't the Doomsday Clock been changed since '02?

Doesn't seem like the Atomic Scientists have been keeping up on world news.

1. Last time this came up it was claimed that the clock-watchers
"don't base it on political whims".

As if the leader of the most powerful nuclear nation deciding to build a new type of nuke, in defiance of established treaties, which because of its size and mission has the potential to be used in non-nuclear conflicts was a mere 'political whim'.

:wtf:

2. do you think nuclear war more likely than in 2002?
do you think it less likely?

reasonable people would prob. say the likelihood is abt the same -- we are still raving abt the axis of evil, iran and north korea are still ranting back, david duke is in syria trying to stir up a war aga. the jews, etc.

same nutbag leaders in usa, pakistan, north korea stomping around

osama still on the loose

i can't see any reason to make an adjustment, can you? conditions are not different enough to warrant an adjustment

at times in the 80s we were literally minutes away from doomsday, i knew a man who was a navigator on one of the bombers that was called back only 12 minutes before they dropped the weapons on the soviet union, ronald reagan famously announced, i launched the missiles 5 minutes ago etc, i don't think * trying to shitstir w. nations the likes of north korea and iran is quite on a par w. reagan shitstirring w. an opponent perfectly capable of striking back, do you?

7 minutes is prob. abt right unless you have a better argument?

4. I think there is a far lesser chance of an accidental holocaust
than in the 80s, but I think the unliklihood of retaliation makes Bushco far liklier to commit a deliberate nuke attack than any previous administration.

Maybe they balance out -- I don't feel that, in my bones.

5. We have a madman with his finger on the button
threatening to push it, and according to all reports things are moving rapidly toward just that scenario. I'd personally put the clock up to about 11:59:57pm right about now.

It'll either be a nuke lobbed at Iran or a suitcase nuke in a building here in this country. A major distraction from current problems in the White House is mandatory for these people. It's all they know how to do- that's been proven time and again over the past five years.

They have zero qualms about doing it.
