"Sounds like Rove could be in big trouble," hires crisis mgr/spokesman
WP: Rove Worrier

It's all highly speculative and ambiguously sourced -- but it sure sounds like Karl Rove could be in big trouble.

David Shuster reports for MSBNC: "While his supporters continue to put a good face on his lengthy grand jury testimony, other sources close to Karl Rove say the presidential adviser is now more worried, not less, that he's going to get indicted. The sources say Rove was surprised by some of the questions he was asked, and by the fact the session stretched on for three and a half hours. . . .

***

Shuster says that Fitzgerald's grand jury is meeting again today.

CNN's John King reports: "Publicly, Karl Rove has been quite optimistic including today when he arrived and talked to his staff. But behind the scenes, some people view this as quite ominous. Other people who have been subjects of this investigation, witnesses before the grand jury, have had their own conduct looked into by the special counsel. When they have been essentially cleared, some have had to meet with him to tie up some loose ends.

"They have done that in person, usually at their lawyer's office. Karl Rove's attorneys hoped that that's where they were at this stage of the investigation....."But Mr. Fitzgerald said, 'I will ask my questions before the grand jury. If you will answer them, you must come before the grand jury.' Many people view that as an ominous sign....."...

***

Mark Corallo's name is suddenly popping up as Rove's spokesman.

Jim VandeHei and Carol D. Leonnig wrote in The Washington Post in October that Rove was "making contingency plans, which included having allies begin to assemble a legal and political team in case he is eventually indicted....Corallo specializes in "crisis management" now....Corallo told me this morning that he was hired by Luskin in October....

1. Crisis Manager informs Rove: "You're GOOD enough, you're SMART enough...
...and gosh darn it, people LIKE you."

6. good one!
Now, can we implicate Rove in the Watergate sex scandal? That would be too precious for words!

2. He sure does sound spooked; if he is entertaining the possibility
of an indictment, I imagine it's going to happen. And then what will dimson do without a brain?

3. Part of Rove's mystique has been his confidence
If he's seen as nervous or edgy, anything less than totally sure of what's going to happen next, there are more than a few rivals who won't hesitate to pile on Mr. Rove. He's made a lot of enemies and hurt a lot of people clawing his way up in the political world.

The real measure of Rove's endangerment will be when people stop taking or returning his phone calls.

8. Karl is just as guilty of war crimes as Bush if it turns out in the end
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 02:38 PM by Hubert Flottz
that the neocons instigated the war in Iraq, for political reasons, as well as trying to get wealthy off of the war. If Bush ever goes to international court over invading Iraq based on fake evidence or intelligence, Karl may well sit next to Dumbya at the trial. Karl was the one who needed to turn Bush into the "War President" and grab up all the "Political Capital" they could lay their greasy hands on. Karl is as guilty as sin too, if it turns out Bush is really guilty of lying to start the war.

Over the years, many criminals in America, have paid the maximum price, for the taking of a single life. If it turns out that these guys started a war in which thousands have died, for no other reason than their own personal gain, it stands to reason that these people should suffer no lesser penalties, for the pre meditated murder of thousands in Iraq. And the torture of thousands more. The crippling of thousands of Americans and Iraqis. The wasting of almost a trillion dollars on a war that we never needed to fight. The whole neocon crew should be in front of federal grand juries, just for starters.

5. Old Bubba up in Levenworth USA will be the new staff ASAP...
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 02:07 PM by Hubert Flottz
Bubba "specializes in "crisis management" too they say. He causes them like KKKarl has been doing. I'm so glad that KKKarl will again be with like minded folks...Crooks and Thieves, even where he's going!

Edit...Maybe with good behavior and such, they will let Karl be the next class president up at big house state. Or at least he might be able to conjure up another GOP pResident out of old bubba.

9. Yeah, I was wondering about this cupcake of uncontested propaganda
that the NYT served up with tea yesterday:

"Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Mr. Rove, said Mr. Rove would be cleared. 'We're confident at the end of this that Mr. Fitzgerald is going to find that Karl has been totally truthful and not only has done nothing wrong but has done everything right,' Mr. Corallo said."

I didn't realize "Mark Corallo" was damage control hired in October, when Rove and his lawyer pulled the forgotten email stunt and Fitzgerald got himself a new grand jury.

The NYT had a lot of nerve leaving that info out, while Rove's lawyers, according to the NYT, "were" (passive tense) "granted anonymity" to speak about the case. ("granted" by WHOM? the door man?). But then the NYT was right in the middle of Treasongate with editors/reporters who are probably perps themselves, so it isn't all that surprising when they leave BLACK HOLES in stories about this illegal war--a war they shoved down our throats--and about all of its collateral damage to human life, to ideals and to the truth.

I was tending to think that Rove's lengthy grand jury appearance the other day meant that he was squealing on others to AVOID an indictment, or in a deal for less charges, rather than that he was about to be indicted. I figured if they were going to indict, they would indict, and not ask further questions--so the lengthy questioning (in Rove's FIFTH grand jury appearance) meant he couldn't get out of an indictment (Fitzgerald wouldn't let him) unless he helped the investigation. I guessed he might be squealing on Libby (on the main crime), since it appears that Libby had tried to set Rove up to take the fall on outing of Plame and Brewster-Jennings, originally. But this (Rove fingering Libby) could also be by agreement of the Bush junta (Libby falls on his sword; Rove gets off by fingering Libby)--although Fitzgerald (if he has Rove on perjury and obstruction) probably wouldn't be satisfied with a lateral fingering-pointing and would want the next rung up of the gang, Cheney.

If the latter is true, then I would much rather see that (Cheney indicted) than having TWO top aides--Libby and Rove--continuing to blockade the investigation (Rove, like Libby, getting slapped with perjury and obstruction).
