No Rove Decision for 10 Days =
What is your take on the news from the Rove camp that they were told by the special prosecutor that there would be no decision in the case for at least 10 days?

My take: Rove knows he has to return to the grand jury in 10 days for more questioning, and is trying to put the best spin on it. Also, his team is trying to create an impression that the case is dragging on too long. Of course the more spin they put out there, the better, as they keep digging the hole deeper, and playing into Fitzgerald's silent hand.

1. I don't believe anything out of Rove's camp

Scooter only had a few hours notice that he was being served an indictment and I do not expect anything less for Rover.

Also consider your statement with what was reported on Countdown last night.

That Rove was heard talking at a party that he thinks he may be indicted.

Yours/Rove's statement coupled with what Luskin has been saying has me thinking that they know Rove is toast and they are trying to soften the blow as much as possible by taking some of the surprise out of the whole deal.

I am most likely wrong on my theory but it is still fun to think about.

10. He is good at public lies when he is not directly under oath.
From what I have heard he has been close to truthful when he speaks in Court he omits a lot of information. In short he is hostile. I have a bottle of Champagne ready when he is charged with perjury or obstruction of justice.

15. Yes and I'll gladly treat you to one
especially if Rove gets indicted.
Though if we can't find the recipe, you might have to settle for a margarita :toast:

9. I don't think Rover's clowns ever tell the truth, BUT I do believe
it will take Fitz a bit of time to put together the info he has, ask for a GJ vote, and issue any indictments.

I find it quite interesting that Rover's puppets seem to have stopped the "Rover isn't worried at all, he know's he's innocent" to we won't know anything for 10 days!

13. Here's what Rove's Damage Control said in the NYT yesterday
(although the NYT failed to say that Rove hired Damage Control in October just after Rove and his lawyer pulled the forgotten email stunt and Fitzgerald got himself a new grand jury):

"Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Mr. Rove, said Mr. Rove would be cleared. 'We're confident at the end of this that Mr. Fitzgerald is going to find that Karl has been totally truthful and not only has done nothing wrong but has done everything right,' Mr. Corallo said."

Totally truthful.
and not only that
Has done nothing wrong but has done everything right.

As guilty as this sounds, still, I think it looks more like Rove is squealing in order to AVOID indictment. If they were going to indict Rove, they would have indicted him. 3 1/2 hours of questioning and more to come, and a stretched out process (10 days...), sounds like a bargain in the works to avoid indictment or get lesser charges in exchange for cracking the case open (which Libby has been obstructing), maybe nailing Libby (for the main crime), although I don't think Fitzgerald would settle for lateral finger-pointing; he would require at least the next rung up in the gang, Cheney. Another scenario: Fitz is bargaining for Bush himself; he's ready to charge Rove with perjury/obstruction, he has him by the short hairs, and is letting it sink in--giving it time. Any other president would have fired Rove in this situation; Bush can't afford to--Rove has him on Treasongate, or other blackmail material. (Ergo: Rove was demoted, not fired.) Also, Bush may be entirely lacking in political capital by the time pardons come around. Rove cannot count on a pardon, with a prez edging ever closer to an UNDER 30% approval rating. Lots of pressure on Rove.

Too much speculation, it's true. But I find this lengthy cat and mouse game interesting. It's playing out differently than the Libby indictment.

Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 04:35 PM by symbolman
Because on the 26th of April the article by Leopold said that Rove/Luskin had BEEN SERVED with a TARGET LETTER THAT DAY.

From what I understand, and have heard/read from many lawyers/prosecutors (like Firedoglake, Volcano Jen's postings) once you get the Target Letter you are Indicted WITHIN HOURS.

Is it true or not?

Even Raw Story is now linking the NYTIMES article..
