The Stonewall Jackson of my CA high school - Sen. George Allen
Here is George Allen's HS graduation portrait. He's wearing a Confederate flag pin. This photo was taken in 1969, two years before Allen moved to Virginia. He was living a privileged life in Southern California at the time. For an excellent profile of Allen, read the New Republic story linked below.

5. Weird...
I lived in San Pedro (which borders PV) and in all that time I never met a Johnny Reb. I think I would have burst out laughing if I had.

These people just, um, don't exist down there unless they're some kind of fringe white supremacists, and I never even met one of those.

Allen named his second son Forrest after Gen. Nathan Forrest, a Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard. You've hit the nail on the head.

7. I don't know any other explanation....
He wasn't a transplanted southerner (and I knew a few of those, none of whom would have dreamed of sashaying around SoCal wearing the Stars and Bars - talk about freakish behavior). It must have been entirely racial, and what a fucking coward! Maybe he got away with his klan sympathies in PV, with a bunch of spoiled white kids who probably didn't have a clue what his pin was about. I would have loved seeing him attend a REAL high school in LA where he would have gotten his ass kicked on a daily basis.

I knew he was a brainless twit, but I had no idea he was a racist. What a sick fuck.

8. "He's wearing a Confederate flag pin" is not supported by the photo.
A poor quality reproduction of a black and white photo that was "enhanced" does not constitute evidence.

It's most suspicious that the author "enhanced" the photo detail. Where I come from, that is called "retouching", and it is no more honest on Playboy centerfolds than it is on photos of political opponents. I think the same thing may be said for both: "Those ain't real".

Even "enhanced" (retouched), that little pin doesn't look like the Stars and Bars.

Maybe it's an Irish clan flag, for the Fitzgerald family:

It might be an Alabama state flag:

Hell, maybe it was his official Geek badge. Any idea if Geeks wore badges back in 1969?

9. Did you read the article I referenced?
The picture is taken from the article. His office admitted it was, indeed, a Confederate flag pin and his explanation was that he was rebellious in high school. I attended high school with him. He not only wore the pin, he had Confederate flag symbols on his car and he did deface the school with racist graffiti as explained by four classmates and one school administrator to the author. The article is long, but it's a good read and sheds a lot of light on the real George Allen.

10. Thanks for providing more information.
George Allen: Bad dog, No biscuit!

No person who displayed racism in his youth is fit to walk the halls of Congress, or be elected President. No amount of apology or remorse can fix that.

11. Don't be silly. General Jackson was ten times a better leader than Allen
If Allen is from CA, doesn't that make him a Carpetbagger (like *)?
