MURRAY WAAS: ROVE'S LEGAL TROUBLES WORSE THAN PREV. REPORTED!
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 05:53 PM by kpete
BREAKING:
From Think Progress & Murray Waas
Rove’s Legal Troubles More Extensive Than Previously Reported

It has been widely reported that Rove’s legal troubles center around his initial failure to tell prosecutors about his conversation with TIME Magazine’s Matt Cooper regarding Joe Wilson’s wife. In a new story, Murray Waas reports http://news.nationaljournal.com/articles/0428nj1.htm that Rove could also be in legal jeopardy based on the substance of what he said about his conversation with Cooper once he acknowledged it occurred. Here’s the critical point:

Rove testified to the grand jury that when he told Cooper that Plame worked at the agency, he was only passing along unverified gossip, according to people familiar with his testimony.

In contrast, Cooper has testified that Rove told him in a phone conversation on July 11, 2003, that Plame worked for the CIA and played a role in having the agency select her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, to make a fact-finding trip to Niger in 2002.

Cooper has also testified that Rove, as well as a second source — I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, then-chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney — portrayed the information about Plame as accurate and authoritative.

So there is a big difference between Rove’s version of the story and Cooper’s version of the story. If Fitzgerald establishes that Rove is the one not telling the truth, it could potentially form the basis of perjury or obstruction of justice charges against Rove.

In short: Rove’s in even more trouble than we thought.

2. Patrick Fitzgerald strikes me as a very competent soul. Never met him
and don't know much about him other than what has been in various media since his appointment for this case.

But my instincts tell me he's rock-solid and true to the target.

The staff shake-up may actually come to BE a staff shake-up in the coming weeks.

24. Did you know that Fitz is an animal abuser?
Yup, it's true. He was even turned down when trying to adopt a shelter cat.

So I was told by the moran who bought my house. This was the day Libby was indicted. I had just moved out and had called her as she moved in to go over things about the house with her. I hung up and never called the moran back.

Where DO these people ge this sh!t?

He was turned down because he was gone too much according to the media.

31. So this Bush nut decided to Swiftboat Fitzgerald? I bet she never would
tell that to him to his face.

The guy's pretty righteous and true, near as I can tell. Could the woman have been Linda Tripp by any chance?

I'm glad you hung up on her. And I believe Mr. Rove is going to be facing some charges soon also, so you may get a call back from the woman who this time will say that Patrick Fitzgerald enjoys carnal relations with farm animals.

3. I've had a bottle of champagne on ice since Nov 2005 for Rove's indictment
On the label we wrote "ROVE INDICTMENT CELEBRATION" and all of our friends have similar bottles labeled. As soon as his indictment is announced we are dropping whatever we're doing, meeting at my house and celebrating!

33. You might want to do it soon, especially if it's an expensive bottle.
Champagne won't store for indefinite periods in the fridge. The air is too dry, the refrigerator motor keeps going on and off (which is bad for the bubbles), there's repeated exposure to light when you open the door, and if you keep it refrigerated for more than a few weeks, the wine can pick up flavours from other food, especially stinky cheese.

14. Actually Libby was the higher value target.
Rove is more visible and in Bush's camp. Libby worked directly for the head of PNAC Central, Darth Cheney. The accumulation of eveidence would be to have enough to strip Cheney of more power since the two head butlers of each power silo are now politically radioactive. Rove would be a huge hit but not as much as Libby. Cheney has the more evil operators in his shoppe - Addington, Bolton, Wurmser, Hadley, Hannah et al. Bush has Rice. The White House has a severe employee morale issue that shall be quite interesting to watch.

8. I know that this case focuses on lies and obstruction resulting from
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 06:19 PM by higher class
a Grand Jury investigation.

So far, one or two people appear to have lied and obstructed during the investigation.

This may mean that neither Bush nor Cheney lied or obstructed during the investigation?

However, what we're lacking is an investigatiaon into:

Who authorized Libby (and assuming Rove) to leak? Libby and Rove could have never decided to leak on their own.

There was a conspiracy to release the information - when are we going to get to that and when are we going to get to the first leaker from the CIA or wherever (maybe even Woodward, if he is, in fact, a CIA operative?

So far we are only at the bottom rung - leaking to reporters. There were leaks and conniving that preceded reporters. - that were higher up the ladder.

Will we ever move up the leak ladder?

38. That someone for me is our Congress. I appreciate what people say
Edited on Sat Apr-29-06 11:10 AM by higher class
about Fitzgerald. That he is sticking with provable law which appears to be along the lines of perjury and obstruction (for now?).

But that is only part of the crime - it's just one level of the overall crime.

There is still who authorized the leak.

There is still who in the CIA or who in the WHIG first revealed the CIA secret.

To me, there are two levels more to go (above the level of the minions talking to reporters). This level was the logical starting point of the investigation - the exposure printed up in a newspaper.

But, if the citizens don't understand the leak and Congress is sometimes useless, what I fear is that the remaining people in this pack of lying liars, cheats, criminals, and destroyers will get away.

So I don't fault Fitzgerald. I just want the other leaks and authorizations to be investigated.

This administration, including the Republicans and some Democrats the House and Senate, place blinders on us over their crimes. They didn't ask for this investigation and they are not going to allow investigations of the other levels of the crime, if things go there way.

Do those who authorize the leak get to avoid the law on the books? And do those who leak to the authorizers get to avoid the law on the books?

kpete says/thinks there will be more. Hopefully, Congress won't impede the law.

Our legislature stinks. There are only a few heroes for the people.

Imagine, a majority of the House and Senate work for about 30% of the people, all of the lobbyists, all of the administration, and themselves. And they work with dirty and bloody hands.

And that majority of the House and Senate too often include Democrats.

Haven't we thought this all along? Unless I've been misinformed this whole time, I had already been under the impression that he was facing perjury and obstruction of justice, and that it was due to multiple inaccuracies and intentional deceit during his testimony. I just find nothing new here at all.

Totally.

ALl this screaming that the "Rove Sky is Falling" is really nothing new, tho I appreciate cold hard facts, and the credentials of the writer, as you said, this has been basically a given.

I researched all this Plame stuff for a year for my film and predicted that Rove would be Indicted a year and half ago. It's like saying water is wet.

20. This calls to mind Bob Woodward's statement that this was all mere gossip.
Rove testified to the grand jury that when he told Cooper that Plame worked at the agency, he was only passing along unverified gossip.

Yeah, and that's exactly the same word that Woodward used on Larry King Live on the eve of the Libby indictment ... while claiming there would not be any indictments ... Gossip. I guess Bob and Karl are pals.

34. The grapevine
Gossip is when friends and neighbors whisper secrets to one another. If Plame's identity was well known, why gossip? Anyone who contends that she was a desk jockey should be getting a subpoena from Fitzgerald to testify as to where that information was ascertained. A person's role at the agency is a secret, be they analysts or undercover. Once they walk through the door what they do in that building is classified.
Gossip is known as the grapevine, as in heard it through. The Bush crime family war time consigliare(sp)James Baker is back on the scene for a reason. Junior's cartel is about to come crashing down and Baker is in place to ensure damage control. Rove is merely the architect working in the back room. Omerta is what the Bush family demands and gets. All leaks come from the top. Those not in compliance are dispatched.
Our President is a nut.

26. BEST Fitzmas poem ever, absolutely the best! Daniel DeRito, I love ya!
Edited on Fri Apr-28-06 11:45 PM by caligirl
#

‘Twas the night before Fitzmas, and all through D.C.
The Senate stood empty, just waiting to see.
The Grand Jury listened to Fitz with much care,
He hoped that the votes all would be there.

Ken Mehlman and Rover all snug in their beds,
While visions of November danced in their heads,
And Dick in his bunker, as “W” did sip,
A drink from the flask he poured through his lips.

When out at the Post arose such a clatter,
They sprung from their cubes to see what was the matter.
Away to the phones they flew like a flash,
Called up their sources who asked for some cash.

The Times of New York had the lights all aglow,
As they savored the scuttle they knew soon would flow.
When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But a signature sheet with twelve names written so clear.

With Old Crow in his throat, George W then spits,
He knew in an instant it must be the Fitz.
More rapid he guzzled, his Party might lose,
So he bristled and shouted while chugging his booze.

Now Karl! First Libby!
Damn Fitz you vixen!
Lost Browny then Scotty!
Who else are you fixin’
To topple from power!
We’re takin’ a lickin!
Now damn Fitzy, damn you!
Damn you this hour!

If not for those levees and Katrina’s wrath,
Dear God, why all these obstacles, who chose her path?
You live in the big house, but the White House is blue,
What else can go wrong, will Dick Cheney go too?

And then in a tantrum, he ran to the roof,
The stomping and kicking of each little hoof.
As he pulled out his hair and was turning around,
Up through the hatch big Barbara came with a bound.

In blue robe with white dots, from her head to her toes,
Yes her clothes were old fashioned, but everyone knows.
A bag of buckshot she held in her hand,
Then she told him that Karl could not take the stand.

His jaw how it twitched, his chin to and fro,
His cheeks were like roses, his nose white from blow!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
She pulled on his ear…you’re back on the snow!
The shaft of a pen he held tight in his fist,
And the smoke it encircled, man was he pissed.
He made a mad face, then reached for the lead,
He shook it and scowled, I wish he were dead.

Righteous and pompous, a nasty old soul,
She slapped him and said, pull Cheney from the hole.
A wink of his eye and a grin on his face,
Soon Fitz he would show that he should stay in his place.

He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the shotguns, then turned with a jerk,
And with shaking fingers, he dialed the phone,
Dick Cheney I need you, he said with a groan.

Dick called for his chopper, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight,

Happy Fitzmas to all and we’ll get him tonight!
